The Man from Toronto Blu Ray Review (Sony)
The Man from Toronto is a 2022 action comedy film directed by Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3, Red Hill, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard 1/2). It was written by Robbie Fox (In the Army Now, Playing for Keeps, So I Married an Axe Murderer, and Grand-Daddy Day Care), Chris Bremner (Bad Boys 4, National Treasure 3, and Bad Boys for Life), and Jason Blumenthal (Bio-Dome). It originally premiered on Netflix!!!! Teddy Jackson (played by: Kevin Hart from Ride Along 1/2, Central Intelligence, Jumanji franchise, Night School, and Get Hard) is a struggling fitness entrepreneur in Yorktown, Virginia who is fired from his job at a local gym for giving ad brochures without the gym’s address. He decides not to tell his wife Lori (played by: Jasmine Mathews from Big George Foreman, The Tomorrow War, The Rookie, and Heathers) and takes her to Onancock for her birthday. Leaving her at a spa, Teddy arrives at the wrong cabin, where a man named Coughlin is being held hostage. Mistaken for “the Man from Toronto”, a mysterious assassin with a talent for brutal interrogation, the clueless Teddy manages to intimidate Coughlin (played by: Jason MacDonald from The Vampire Diaries) into giving up a code.
The cabin is raided by the FBI, who convince Teddy to pose as the Man from Toronto to help capture would-be Venezuelan dictator Colonel Marin (played by: Alejandro De Hoyos from The Contractor) in exchange for the FBI paying off his overdue mortgage. Much to Teddy’s jealousy, an agent is assigned to accompany Lori and her friend Anne (played by: Kaley Cuoco from Harley Quinn, The Big Bang Theory, The Wedding Ringer, and The Flight Attendant) on a day of luxury in D.C., telling them the trip has been provided by Teddy’s job. As Toronto, Teddy meets Marin’s wife Daniela (played by: Lela Loren from Power), who flies him to San Juan, Puerto Rico with orders to identify Green and bring him to the Colonel in D.C. En route, Teddy is ambushed by the Man from Toronto (played by: Woody Harrelson from Cheers, Natural Born Killers, Zombieland 1/2, Venom 1/2, Midway, and Solo: A Star Wars Story), whose real name is Randy. Planning to complete the $2 million contract by maintaining the ruse that Teddy is Toronto, Randy informs his Handler (played by: Ellen Barkin from Animal Kingdom, Sea of Love, The Fan, Diner, and Johnny Handsome), who sends another assassin, the Man from Miami (played by: Pierson Fode from Kill Game). Randy and Teddy arrive at a tech conference. Teddy must try his best to scam his way into the Man from Toronto’s brutal reputation without being exposed. He’s completely out of his element but dumb luck might be on his side. Can these two get along enough to pull off this near impossible mission????It’s great to see a Netflix film get a real home video release after it;s streaming debut! The Man from Toronto has a nice balance of action and comedy here.It has a sharp screenplay that brings out of the best out of it’s cast. I’ve always been fond of the hitman sub-genre. This mistaken identity flick is a blast. This one puts a hilarious spin on it when it comes to both of those type of features. Both Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson have great chemistry together in this. It has a solid supporting cast that includes Jasmine Mathews, Kaley Cuoco, and Ellen Barkin. The Man from Toronto has beautiful locations, quality production design, and a nice soundtrack to go with this fun ride. It’s very entertaining and the replay value is strong here. It’s one of the best starring roles and features from Kevin Hart in a long time, RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Sony Pictures! This 1080p (1.85:1) transfer looks great on blu ray. This is one of the more stylized looking action comedy hybrids recently, it shines in HD. It has a few different options when it comes to audio which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, French: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, and Spanish: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 on the disc. It has English, English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has 6 additional “Deleted Scenes”. It has the original “Trailer” and other “Trailers also. It’s kinda light on the extras but it’s definitely nice to see a Netflix film get a real release which is kinda rare these days when it comes to home video. It has a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
