Inside Blu Ray Review (Universal)
Inside is a 2023 psychological thriller film directed by Vasilis Katsoupis (My Friend Larry Gus) in his feature directorial debut. It was written by written by Ben Hopkins (In Search of Monsters, Marionette, and Simon Magus). The perfect plan is set up for robbing the prized possession of a famed art collector. High skilled art thief Nemo (played by: Willem Dafoe from Platoon, Wild at Heart, The Boondock Saints, Spider-Man franchise, The Lighthouse, Aquaman, John Wick, and American Psycho) breaks into a high-tech New York City penthouse.
Everything seems to go as planned at first but Nemo finds out the hard way that there is no such thing as a foolproof plan. The distressing wail of the security alarm system crushes the criminal’s dreams of his planned early retirement. Nemo finds himself trapped in an stylized prison of concrete and glass filled with a top notch collection of works of art that could set him good for the rest of his life. Now, the predator has become the prey. As the days slowly turn into weeks, his hunger, his thirst, and he becomes more fatigue as he’s trapped inside, the doomed invader must keep a clear head to keep the living nightmare situation under control and beat the damn near impossible odds. The intruder is on his last legs before it’s all over. Will Nemo escape from the inside????
Inside kinda flew under the radar when it was originally released. I didn’t even notice it in theaters so I’m guessing it had a very small run. The first time Inside caught my attention was when it premiered on Peacock. It kinda has a independent vibe to it, I know it’s from Universal but it just feels a little smaller than their typical productions. That’s actually a good thing here, it’s a fresh breath of air. It’s a little different, it’s basically a single person feature with a small amount of dialogue. I love how creative filmmakers get when their movie is one of those one location types. Inside feels very claustrophobic which elevates the suspense and thrills here. Willem Dafoe is one of the greatest character actors of all time and he gets to be the lead in this. Very few performances could make something like this work but Dafoe does it with ease in Inside. If you are a fan of his, this is a must see. I enjoy this unique take on the crime sub-genre with some survival and suspense thrown in the mix. inside was way way way better than expected. I hope it gets more attention from this home video release plus the fact that it’s on Peacock right now. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s discuss the high definition presentation from Universal Pictures! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks amazing on blu ray. The location is the star here when it comes to the visuals. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 on the disc. All of the dialogue are crystal clear, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has almost 6 minutes of “Deleted Scenes”. That’s the only extras on the release. No slipcover or digital code with this blu ray. Technically, it’s available everywhere but it’s more limited than your typical release so it’s most likely going to be online rather than an actual location but check it out from the great folks at MovieZyng.com, it deserves more ATTENTION!!!!
