Tulsa King: Season Two Blu Ray Review (Paramount)

Tulsa King is a 2022 crime television series created, co-written, and produced by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Sicario franchise, Wind River, Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, and Hell or High Water). It was directed by Craig Zisk (Weeds, Nip/Tuck, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Interview with the Vampire, and Las Vegas), Joshua Marston (Ray Donovan, Six Feet Under, and Billions), David Semel (Hannibal, Watchmen, and The Strain), and Kevin Dowling (Jack Ryan, The Walking Dead, and Heroes). It was executive produced by Terence Winter (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Vinyl, Brooklyn Rules, and Flipper). Tulsa King has already been renewed for a Season 3!!!! New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (played by: Sylvester Stallone from the Rambo franchise, Rocky franchise, The Expendables franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, The Suicide Squad, and Cop Land) was exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dwight builds his new crew from some unlikely locals which includes Bodhi (played by: Martin Starr from Adventureland, Knocked Up, and Superbad), Tyson (played by: Jay Will from Rob Peace, Evil, and It Doesn’t Matter), Armand (played by: Max Casella from The Sopranos, Doogie Howser M.D., and Boardwalk Empire), Mitch (played by: Garrett Hedlund from Four Brothers, Death Sentence, and Inside Llewyn Davis), and others which ends up being very successful. It grabs the attention of his New York family that didn’t expect anything to happen with their dramatic move. Dwight continues to gain more power, money, and respect growing his empire in Tulsa. It forces the Kansas City mob lead by Bill Bevilaqua (played by: Frank Grillo from Werewolves, The Purge franchise, Captain America franchise, The Grey, and End of Watch) to take notice after their businesses are at risk with this this competition. A very powerful local businessman Cal Thresher (played by: Neal McDonough from Minority Report, Captain America: The First Avenger, Walking Tall, Suits, and Arrow) doesn’t like sharing his earnings with Dwight either. The General struggles to keep his family and crew safe while keeping track of all his dangerous affairs. He still has so much unfinished business back in New York lead by Chickie (played by: Domenick Lombardozzi from The Wire, Ray Donovan, and Breakout Kings) and they have been informed by his many new rivals!!!! I’ll always appreciate Tulsa King for resurrecting the career of the legendary Sylvester Stallone. The action star could only get mainstream exposure with Rambo, Creed, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, and The Expendables for the last 11 years before this TV show came out. He’s back on track with Tulsa King and it’s one of his best characters. The talented Taylor Sheridan has changed television with all his productions and his unique universe. The first season was top notch and it established everything that lead up to this impressive follow up. Dwight and his crew are making too much of an impact so the rest of the crime world focuses on them for the second season. Tulsa King pretty much brings every major role from the original here. Sylvester Stallone is top notch as Dwight Manfredi. He’s always been a skilled actor but this character really brings out his talents as a performer and everyone is finally starting to take notice. Dwight is ruthless and he’s a natural leader. Tulsa King provides a variety of quality villains which includes Chickie, Bill Bevilaqua, and Cal Thresher. Domenick Lombardozzi, Frank Grillo, and Neal McDonough all bring something completely different to their bad guy personalities here. Dwight must outsmart plus fight against all these brutal gangsters while trying to protect his crew and family. The rest of the supporting cast includes Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Garrett Hedlund, Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), Tatiana Zappardino (Superstition), Annabella Sciorra (The Sopranos), Andrea Savage (Step Brothers), Dana Delany (Tombstone), Chris Caldovino (The Sopranos), Dashiell Connery (Animal Kingdom), McKenna Quigley Harrington (The Dead Half), Rich Ting (Big Bet), Steve Witting (Killers of the Flower Moon), Michael Beach (Mayor of Kingstown), Scarlet Rose Stallone (The Family Stallone), Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves), and Glen Gould (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines). Tulsa King is a great mix between crime and western. It has a little bit of everything here including acton, crime, dark humor, suspense, and drama. It has plenty of violence and it never holds back when it comes to that. Season Two just took what happened before to the next level. There’s so many different subplots that keep popping up and Tulsa King has the potential to last a long time with all it’s explosive material. It’s one of the best things to be on Paramount Plus and it’s nice to see older episodes getting bigger exposure on CBS now. I don’t really keep up with many TV shows these days but I never miss an episode of Tulsa King. It’s always entertaining and very fun with excellent replay value to it. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you need to give it a shot because it’s great. It It’s currently streaming on Paramount Plus. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Paramount Pictures! These (2:39.1) transfers on all 9 episodes look amazing on blu ray for it’s home video release. Season One really switched up between New York and Tulsa but this follow up is more aimed it’s Tulsa locations. Season Two has even more of a modern western look, style, and vibe to it. This TV series has attention grabbing cinematography, colorful locations, and sharp production design that really stand out here. It has English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1 tracks for each action packed episode on 2 discs. Tulsa King is a great sounding and explosive television show. This is put your home set up to the test. All of the dialogue is crisp, the chaos is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the brand new exclusive little over 29 minute “The Boss is Back”. It has interviews with the cast. They all chat about being excited to be back for Tulsa King. They talk about the characters and situations from the season. They bring up that it has more humor thrown in this time. They go over some of the new characters that show up for this return. They discuss changes and differences with people from this wild universe. It’s a very detailed look at Season Two and it’s great to see most of the main characters in this. It has the brand new exclusive little over 12 minute “Mob Rule: Writing a Season of Crime”. Executive producer and writer Terence Winter chats about the characters, concepts, situations, problems, and the overall experience of the new season. It has the little over 4 minute “Who Said It”. The cast tries to guess classic quotes from the original season. It’s hilarious to see everyone repeat these lines. It has the little over 2 minute “Meet the Rivals”. The cast discusses their bad guy roles here. This is a quick focus on some of the villains from Season Two. It points out all their differences. It has the little over 2 minute “Best in Crew”. The cast answers a variety of entertaining questions. It’s comes with a slipcover. This is a must own when it comes to crime television. It’s available everywhere on March 18th, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
