Suits: The Complete Series Blu Ray Review (Universal)
Suits is a 2011 television series written, produced, directed, and created by Aaron Korsh (Syucheu, The Deep End, and Notes from the Underbelly). It was produced by filmmaker Doug Liman (Go, Pearson, Nightflyers, Bourne franchise, Edge of Tomorrow, Knight Rider, Convert Affairs, Fair Game, The Unexplained, The O..C, and Cry Wolf). It aired on the USA network. It lasted nine seasons and it had a spinoff under Pearson. There’s an upcoming spinoff Suits LA coming soon. Suits deals with the fast-paced, high-stakes world of a Manhattan corporate law firm where hotshot attorney Harvey Specter (played by: Gabriel Macht from Love & Other Drugs, The Good Shepherd, The Spirit, A Love Song for Bobby Long, Whiteout, The Recruit, Behind Enemy Lines, The Others, American Outlaws, Bad Company, and Middle Men) makes a risky move by hiring legal prodigy Mike Ross (played by: Patrick J. Adams from Old School, Luck, Rosemary’s Baby, Pillow Talk, Sneaky Pete, The Right Stuff, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as his new associate despite not having a college or law degree. The two are forced to keep up the charade as they become an irrepressible duo. They must try to keep this dangerous lie away from Louis Litt (played by: Rick Hoffman from Hostel, Thanksgiving, Billions, Postal, Jake in Progress, Cellular, The Bernie Mac Show, and Blood Work), Rachel Zane (played by: Meghan Markle from Anti-Social, Horrible Bosses, Remember Me, and Get Him to the Greek), Donna Paulsen (played by: Sarah Rafferty from Chicago Med, Grey’s Anatomy, My Life with the Walter Boys, and Tremors), and Jessica Pearson (played by: Gina Torres from The Matrix franchise, Pearson, Serenity, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Transformers Prime, 24, Firefly, and Hannibal). Boundaries are crossed, alliances are tested, and fallouts are inevitable in the riveting nine seasons!!!!
Suits always looked interesting to me but I never gave it a chance until now for some reason. There’s always so many television shows out there and they all require so much time to invest especially if they make it long enough for a serious run. Unlimited options make it hard to check out everything and give them a fair shot. The USA network has always put together high quality productions like Burn Notice, Psych, Mr. Robot, White Collar, and Monk. Their work stands out and keep you hooked every week. Aaron Korsh created a unique world into law firms and a slick behind the scenes perspective when it comes to being an attorney. Harvey Specter might be my all time favorite lawyer when it comes any other TV project over the years. His confidence and his creative skills when it comes to closing jobs is very entertaining. He’s an ambitious shark in a bloody thirsty environment. He’s not afraid to push the boundaries but he still believes in the law that he represents. Harvey Specter is beyond loyal to his small circle but he is the one that you want for help when your back is against the wall. Gabriel Macht is damn near perfect as lawyer that can fix any impossible situation with his crafty talents. Patrick J. Adams starts out as a con man that’s too smart for his own good here. He remembers everything with his impressive abilities and he’s that guy with so much potential but never lived up to it. The chemistry between Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams is amazing, they are one of the greatest TV duos of all time. They always increased the quality of Suits when they teamed up in this. Two complete opposites that just worked. Gina Torres is fantastic as the main name partner and boss of the law firm. She is dedicated to her job and she sacrifices her own life for her work. She’s always blunt and she doesn’t back down from anything. You can see why the Prince of England married Meghan Markle, I fell in love in her while watching this. She’s stunning and she just grabs all your attention right away. She’s amazing in every possible way. I love her morals and that fact that she always fights for what she believes in no matter what at any cost. Sarah Rafferty is a redhead goddess, she lights up every scene that she’s in. She’s the most underrated member of this law firm.
She is the one that you go to when you need help and she makes life easier for anyone in her life. She’s the ultimate secretary and friend. Rick Hoffman is excellent villain as Louis Litt at first. He had the best character arc out of everyone when it comes to Suits. I really hated him for awhile here. He was mean spirited, untrustworthy, and someone that would do anything to achieve his goals. He’s neurotic and he lets his anger get the best of him at times. He changes for the good in Suits but it takes some painful moments to really get him realize his true self. After it’s all said and done, he’s one of my favorites here. Rick Hoffman is very underrated when it comes to actors. He’s been around for a long time but I feel like he doesn’t get the respect that he deserves. This TV show really displays all of his talents. You can’t ask for a better main cast when it comes something like this, they have bring something different to the table which keeps Suits fresh and something that always delivers. Suits has some top notch villains that include David Costabile (Breaking Bad), Paul Schulze (The Sopranos), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Denise Crosby (Pet Sematary), Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones), Eric Close (Without a Trace), and so many others. All of these performances were amazing when it came to being unlikable and a overall scumbag especially the Daniel Hardman role. The rest of the talented supporting cast includes Amanda Schull (12 Monkeys), Wendell Pierce (The Wire), DulĂ© Hill (Psych), Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy), Neal McDonough (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), D.B. Woodside (24), Abigail Spencer (Grey’s Anatomy), Gary Cole (Office Space), Erik Palladino (E.R.), Malcolm-Jamal Warner (The Cosby Show), Al Sapienza (The Sopranos), Titus Welliver (Bosch), Charles Barkley (NBA), and so many other skilled actors. I can see why so many joined this stylish universe with it’s high quality scripts. Lots of entertaining twists and storylines that really pulled you into Suits. As a huge movie nerd, I really appreciated all the film references used in the show. I love the overall look and style of the flashy series. It really took advantage of it’s New York location and atmosphere. Suits had a excellent mix of suspense, comedy, and drama during it’s run. It went from something that I have never watched before to one of my personal favorite shows of all time. I really cared about every lead role in this and I thought that they tied up everything to end this awesome show. Usually, when a TV show makes it to 9 full seasons there’s nothing left to cover and it runs out of gas but Suits managed to stay strong when it came to it’s 134 episodes for the most part. Suits raised the bar when it came television that focused on the law and I hope others like me discover this hidden gem with this newer home video release and streaming on Peacock. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
