Deep Web is a 2015 documentary written, produced, and directed by Alex Winter (Freaked, Fever, The Idiot Box, Downloaded, The YouTube Effect, Showbiz Kids, Zappa, The Panama Papers, Supah Ninjas, Smosh: The Movie, and Ben 10 franchise). Alex Winter is an actor turned director. You might know him from such films as the Bill and Ted franchise, The Lost Boys, Freaked, and Death Wish 3. It premiered on Epix. The Deep Web narrated by Keanu Reeves (Bill and Ted’s franchise, John Wick franchise, The Matrix franchise, Speed, The Gift, Constantine, Street Kings, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Point Break) caught the attention of the world with the shocking arrest of the infamous Ross William Ulbricht. He is the convicted entrepreneur accused of being online terrorist “Dread Pirate Roberts” behind Silk Road. It’s time to unravel the web of shady secrecy, wild accusations, and suspicious criminal activity surrounding the unknown Ulbricht. It explores how the outcome his trial set a precedent for the future of technological freedom!!!!

Filmmaker Alex Winter follows up his Internet documentary series after doing Downloaded with 2015’s Deep Web. He completed his net documentary trilogy with fascinating The YouTube Effect 7 years after this one. Definitely, check them all out since they are all kinda connected in the same subject and world. This independent film digs deep into the Silk Road and Dread Pirate Roberts story. It features Ross Ulbricht, James Chaparro, Nicolas Christin, Cindy Cohn, Joshua L. Dratel, Neill Franklin, Andy Greenberg, Christopher Ingraham, Runa Sandvik, Alden Schiller, Todd Shipley, Nicholas Weaver, Ulbricht family members, and many others discussing this whole interesting event. This documentary focuses more Ross William Ulbricht rather than the Deep Web in general. It chats about the government and their case on the Internet criminal. It’s an interesting view of the whole thing with a variety of interviews and clips. Lots of information here, I didn’t know much about this except for what I seen on a few short TV episodes on it. Action star Keanu Reeves narrates this for his Bill and Ted co-star Winter for this true crime look at the infamous Dread Pirate Roberts from Silk Road. It’s worth checking out especially if are a fan of crime related documentaries, give this a shot. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Giant Pictures! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks fantastic on blu ray. This independent documentary is much better than expected in HD and it’s solid upgrade compared to the previous release. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on the disc. It has English SDH subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director Alex Winter. This is my preferred way to view this movie. The filmmaker doesn’t hold back here. Winter provides all kinds of information and he’s very fascinating to listen to for this personal audio track. You can tell that he is passionate about this project.
