London is a 2005 drama film written and directed by Hunter Richards (Awake and Free the Nipple). It was produced by casting director Bonnie Timmermann (Violet & Daisy, Slow Burn, Bug, Jamesy Boy, and I Origins). Syd (played by: Chris Evans from Avengers franchise. Captain America franchise, Fantastic Four franchise, Knives Out, Snowpiercer, The Losers, Sunshine, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World) receives a phone call from a friend informing him that his ex-girlfriend London (played by: Jessica Biel from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Total Recall, The A-Team, Elizabethtown, Blade: Trinity, and The Rules of Attraction) is having a going-away party before she moves to California with her new boyfriend in a few days. Syd, who has been deeply depressed since London dumped him, flies into a rage upon hearing the news, and wrecks his apartment. He decides to go to the party uninvited, bringing along Bateman (played by: Jason Statham from Crank franchise, The Fast and the Furious franchise, The Meg, The Expendables franchise, The Transporter franchise, Death Race, Snatch, Ghosts of Mars, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), a banker who delivers cocaine to Syd as a favor to their mutual dealer. After arriving at the party at the condominium belonging to the parents of club girl Rebecca (played by: Isla Fisher from Wedding Crashers), Bateman and Syd install themselves in the bathroom where they snort line after line of cocaine and guzzle tequila. They end up discussing love, sex, God, women and pain during their crazy night. Over the course of the night and a massive pile of blow, Bateman tells Syd to get on with his life. The private party-within-a-party is soon joined by Maya (played by: Kelli Garner from Bully) and Mallory (played by: Joy Bryant from Get Rich or Die Tryin’), who show some sympathy for Syd to grab some free cocaine. When Syd learns that London has arrived, Bateman challenges him to go out and talk to her. After a heated confrontation in the middle of the party, Syd and London decide to leave to talk somewhere more private. Things start to heat up and the drama increases around them. What will happen next between the two past lovers before everything is changed forever????Chris Evans and Jessica Biel were actually dating in real life while filming this one so their amazing chemistry is 100% honest here. It definitely helps the movie and those two give some of their best performances in London. London is an interesting drama that shows a relationship in it’s high and low points during it’s run time. You see these have such passion for each other but something is always holding them back from being great together. London is ironically best known for being the movie where Jason Statham actually has hair in it. Don’t let that distract you from his impressive performance in this. He’s mainly known as an actor star when it comes to most of his films but he delivers a drama turn in London. He shows off his acting chops here. The supporting cast is loaded with all kinds of familiar faces that includes Isla Fisher, Kelli Garner, Joy Bryant, Louis C.K. (American Hustle), Dane Cook (Good Luck Chuck), Paula Patton (Warcraft), Kat Dennings (Thor franchise), and Sophie Monk (The Hills Run Red) is top notch here. This is more of a character driven drama so don’t expect any crazy action or thrills despite the cast being known for those type of productions. London is very under-rated and it rarely gets brought up when it comes to mentioning any of the leads past work. It deserves more attention and praise, hopefully this brand new blu ray release helps. RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Mill Creek Entertainment! This 1080p (2.39:1) is definitely an upgrade compared to the older DVD home video release. The audio includes an English: DTS-HD Master 2.0 track which is also a step above when it comes to past home video releases. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the drama is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. Hold on to your old DVD if you want to keep the extras because unfortunately this brand new blu ray release is bare bones and it didn’t port over any of the archive special features from the original release which included a commentary, deleted scenes, and featurettes. Despite that, this looks and sounds so much better than the DVD plus it has a cheap price point so it’s still worth upgrading for your collection. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
