I Am Lisa Blu Ray Review (Mill Creek Entertainment / Feed The Queen)

I Am Lisa is a 2020 independent horror film produced, edited, and directed by Patrick Rea (The Empty Acre, Nailbiter, Munchies, The Invoking 2, The Witching, Monster X, Arbor Demon, Monsterland 2, Charlotte, Screams of the Dead, They Wait in the Dark, and Rhino). It was written and produced by Eric Winkler (Inhumane, Super Happy Fun Clown, and Michaela). It grossed $6,986 during it’s limited theatrical run in the U.S. and Canada. A cruel power hungry Sheriff Deborah Huckins (played by: Manon Halliburton from The Sopranos) controls her small community. She punishes the unpopular Lisa (played by: Kristen Vaganos from General Hospital, Dating After College, Dead Wrong, and Serial Soulmate) with her deputy son Nick Huckins (played by: Chris Bylsma from El Camino, The Kid, Them, and News of the World) after she threatens to take down her spoiled daughter Jessica Huckins (played by: Carmen Anello from Exposure and Zombie Beauty Pageant) after taking her bullying way too far. They leave her for dead in the woods but she is attacked by a vicious werewolf. She gains supernatural abilities as she returns to get retribution against all the corruption. Will Lisa lose herself completely if she gets her revenge???? I Am Lisa is a revenge and werewolf hybrid from veteran horror director Patrick Rea. The script from Eric Winkler provides heavy character development and it doesn’t really pick up for around 45 besides a few small moments. If you can be patient then it’s worth it for the remainder of I Am Lisa. Kristen Vaganos as Lisa is great as the nerdy outsider. She tries to stay to herself but trouble always ends up finding her. Carmen Anello as Jessica is pushed as the main villain for a good amount of this independent horror production. She’s good as the spoiled girl that always gets her way. They kinda flip it and make her family even worse than her. There’s some quality eye candy in this. Manon Halliburton as Sheriff Deb Huckins is very unlikeable in I Am Lisa. The small town fears her because she continues to abuse her power. She puts Lisa through hell for basically nothing here. The rest of the supporting cast includes Chris Bylsma, Jennifer Seward (The Stylist), Cinnamon Schultz (Winter’s Bone), Sarah McGuire (House of Forbidden Secrets), Millie Milan (Bonehill Road), Shawn Eric Jones (First Man), and Nicole Hall (Paragon). It has a very Indy sounding play list for it’s music, it fits the vibe. Once all hell breaks loose after it’s slower beginning, I Am Lisa provides some decent suspense and tense scenarios. Lisa doesn’t hold back when it comes to her vengeance. It has solid low budget special fx, gore, and violence from Jake Jackson (Exposure) for it’s finale. It leaves it open for a possible sequel. It brings something different to the popular werewolf sub-genre. It would have been awesome to witness a full transformation but it only shows certain elements from Lisa’s big change. I Am Lisa is better than expected, I do wish the chaos started a little earlier but it still delivers. RECOMMENDED!!!! This 1080p (2.40:1) unrated transfer looks good especially for such a small budget. They use everything to their advantage and spend their money wisely on it’s main departments here. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the disc. The audio is impressive especially for the later half when the revenge kicks in. All of the dialogue is very clean, the hunt is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with writer Eric Winkler, director Patrick Rea, and lead actress Kristen Vaganos. They break down all of the scenes as they revisit this. They show appreciation for the cast and crew. They go into great detail about everything including one of main bookstore locations. They give you all kinds of behind the scenes information and personal stories from the production for I Am Lisa. It has an under a minute “Deleted Scene”. Best friends Lisa and Sam discuss Vincent Price. It has the little over 49 minute “You’re So Cool Lisa: The FX of I Am Lisa” directed by fx artist Jake Jackson. It has interviews with the cast and crew. They chat about how they got involved with this project. It was started from a common love and respect for Fright Night. Lead actress Kristen Vaganos originally turned down I Am Lisa. This is a very impressive behind the scenes look at the makeup and violence for the werewolf revenge feature. Characters and moments are broken down. It shows the experience of working on this independent film. It has a “Trailer” for the movie. It’s currently streaming on Peacock and Tubi.
