Scream 7 4K Review (Paramount Pictures)

Scream 7 is a 2026 slasher film co-written, executive produced, and directed by Kevin Williamson (Scream franchise, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, Cursed, The Following, The Vampire Diaries, and Dawson’s Creek). It was executive produced and co-written by Guy Busick (Ready or Not franchise, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Abigail, Scream franchise, and Castle Rock). It was produced by William Sherak (Scream franchise, Ready or Not franchise, Suspiria, Abigail, Ambulance, The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and Role Models). It follows the 6 previous Scream films in the horror series. Previous star Melissa Barrera was let go due to certain social media activity, this caused Jenna Ortega to back out to show support for her co-star which completely changed this whole production. When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott is now known as Sidney Evans (played by: Neve Campbell from the Scream franchise, Wild Things, The Craft, House of Cards, Skyscraper, 54, and Party of Five) has relocated to build a brand new life away from her troubled history. Her darkest fears are realized as her daughter Tatum (played by: Isabel May from Alexa and Katie, 1883, Young Sheldon, Let’s Scare Julie, and 1923) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney is forced to face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all!!!! Scream 7 unfortunately has suffered some false negativity because of it’s controversial fallout with previous stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega who anchored the last few sequels. The dedicated fan base for the later films were furious because of this shocking move so they basically boycotted this newest entry for the slasher universe. Ironically, it’s the first actual Scream feature to be directed by it’s creator Kevin Williamson. He always provides something tense, suspensful, and twisty with his sharp writing. Scream 7 keeps that thrilling tradition going here. Lead actress and franchise star Neve Campbell hasn’t really been involved much with these newer sequels as the iconic final girl Sidney Prescott. $7 million convinced her to return to Scream again with a bigger role. She’s older now with her own family. She’s moved away from her former unwanted spotlight and she hides under her husband’s name to keep everything private these days. The feisty survivor is brought back after an old friend threatens her daughter. Isabel May is Sidney’s daughter Tatum Evans. She’s busy living her own life when it’s turned upside down with her mother’s tragic history. She’s a fighter just like her mom but she’s paranoid about who’s really behind this new trauma. They think it could be one of her friends but no one is really trusted in this deadly situation. They decided to bring back both Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream, Scream VI, Yellowjackets, and The Leftovers) as Mindy Meeks-Martin and Mason Gooding (Scream, Scream VI, Heart Eyes, and Booksmart) as Chad Meeks-Martin for Scream 7 to connect this newer effort with the previous two. I personally thought it felt way too forced and they were just in the way for this Scream resurrection. They weren’t needed at all. Nothing against them, they were fine in this but it was very unnecessary. Courteney Cox (Scream franchise, Friends, Masters of the Universe, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) is great as always as the ambitious Gale Weathers. She never knows when to stop especially after dealing with her own tragedy. She’s motivated to get back in the game and be revelent again. She means well but she’s back to causing trouble for Sidney. She finally gets her exclusive interview but it backfires. She ends up getting deeper into this unpredictable game with an unknown killer or killers. Honorable mentions to Roger L. Jackson (Scream franchise), Anna Camp (True Blood), Ethan Embry (Can’t Hardly Wait), Joel McHale (Community), Mckenna Grace (Five Nights at Freddy’s 2), and Celeste O’Connor (Madame Web) who really stood out in their roles for Scream 7. The rest of the supporting cast includes Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), Asa Germann (Gen V), Mark Consuelos (Riverdale), Victor Turpin (Bad Monkey), Amy Louise Pemberton (Legends of Tomorrow), Michelle Randolph (Landman), Jimmy Tatro (Stuber), Maggie Toomey (Mayor of Kingstown), Annabelle Toomey (The Pitt), Jeremy Conner (Teacup), and Timothy Simons (Inherent Vice). Scream 7 is extremely creative while adding the popular A.I. technology to this. I won’t spoil or give away anything but one of the best things about this is all of the unexpected cameos. That alone makes 7 worth checking out sometime. It kinda surprised me how brutal and gruesome it got during some of the kills. It didn’t shy away from gore or violence. The beer tap murder is one of the most innovative executions that I’ve ever experienced in a slasher and that’s saying a lot because it’s my favorite horror sub-genre. Scream manages to be always tense especially for it’s final act. It had a mysterious atmosphere which is hard to pull off for a 7th entry into a long running horror series. The reveal for who was responsible could have been better. It felt more random than convincing plus there wasn’t a quality backstory for the reason. Besides that, Scream 7 is way better than it’s harsh reputation. I actually preferred it over a few of them. I think after some time goes by, it will get more respect. Too many people are upset about certain things related to it so they went into it biased before it even started. It completely delivers as a slasher. I’d revisit it again, the surprises and cameos were awesome but I’ll let you find out for yourself because spoilers suck. It’s currently streaming on Paramount Plus so give it a shot. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Paramount Pictures! This 2160p (2.39:1) transfer with Dolby Vision and HDR10 looks stunning in 4K. Say what you want about Scream 7 but it’s one of the best looking sequels in the entire franchise. The cinematography, production design, locations, and special fx really shines when it comes to the sharp visuals. It has various audio options which includes English: Dolby Atmos, English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1, and English: Audio Descriptive. Scream is loaded with suspense, death, and violence so the audio definitely has a nice jump to it. The score adds an extra punch to it. All of the dialogue is crisp, the killing is elevated, and the music has a massive boost to it. It has English SDH, English, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has the almost 22 minute “Scar Tissue: The Making of Scream 7”. It has the little over 8 minute “Building Tension: Production Design”. It has the little over 6 minute “Dance of Death: Stunts”. It has a little over 5 minutes of “Deleted Scenes” which includes Scott is Ghostface, Chloe and Lucas Connect, Tatum and Ben Say Goodbye, Jessica and Sidney Chat, Tatum and Ben Leave Bar, and Chad and Mindy. It has the little over 3 minute music video from Ice Nine Kills “Twisting the Knife”. There’s a few different variations of this home video release including a few limited editions. It comes with a slipcover, a digital code, and a Blu Ray copy. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
