True Detective Night Country Blu Ray Review (Warner Bros.)

True Detective Night Country (aKa True Detective Season 4) is a 2024 crime television series produced, created, co-written, and directed by Issa López (600 Miles, Todo Mal, Tigers are not Afraid, Bad Girls, Labyrinths of Passion, Britannia, and Pulling Strings). Night Country is the 4th Season of HBO’s True Detective. In the remote town of Alaska, the eight scientists working at the Tsalal Research Station disappear, with a woman’s severed tongue left at the scene. Local police Chief Liz Danvers (played by: Jodie Foster from The Silence of the Lambs, Taxi Driver, The Accused, Panic Room, Inside Man, and Hotel Artemis) has her own theory on what happened. Alaskan trooper Evangeline Navarro (played by: Kali Reis from Asphalt City, Catch the Fair One, and Mercy) does her own investigation, she believes the victim to be Annie Kowtok (played by: Nivi Pedersen from Thin Ice) from a previous unsolved case from six years ago. Peter Prior (played by: Finn Bennett from Hope Gap, Domina, and Liar) steals files from his father Hank (played by: John Hawkes from Eastbound and Down, Deadwood, Winter’s Bone, American Gangster, and The Peanut Butter Falcon) for Danvers. Danvers finds evidence that links the cold case and one of the missing researchers. A local woman Rose Aguineau (played by: Fiona Shaw from the Harry Potter franchise, The Avengers, True Blood, and Channel Zero) discovers the naked bodies of the researchers all frozen in a solid mass. What really happened here????I do love how every season from True Detective is completely different and you can experience them all as a stand alone. This fourth season is very female heavy, it’s great to see Jodie Foster do something like this. She’s one of the best actresses of all time. She kinda has took it easy when it came to focusing on just acting for awhile now, she’s directed a few things over the years. She mainly does supporting roles when she actually does a film but this is the first time she’s been the real lead in a long time. She’s powerful as Liz Danvers, she has her own demons to deal with but she’s determined to solve this bizarre case. Foster has always been at her best when it comes to crime thrillers and this is no different. I’ve never seen Kali Reis in anything before this. She is impressive as Evangeline Navarro. She is looking for redemption for an old case that’s haunted her ever since. She doesn’t hold back when it comes to anyone. These two completely different detectives are doing everything to crack this strange situation. Night Country has a very solid supporting cast that includes Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, John Hawkes, Isabella LaBlanc, Nivi Pedersen, Christopher Eccleston, Joel Montgrand, and Anna Lambe. The Prior family subplot kept stuff interesting, the relationship between them was always very tense. True Detective Night Country has some wild and very visual violence. It’s icy and cold atmosphere feels it’s own character for the show. I enjoy that it all feels so isolated in this. It’s a very small and personal vibe with this True Detective. Issa López wore every creative hat when it comes to this 4th season of the popular crime television series so her fingerprints on everything. Night Country is full of tension, suspense, & mystery. It’s worth checking out especially if you enjoyed the other True Detective installments, RECOMMENDED!!!!Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Warner Bros Pictures! These 1080p (2.00:1) on all 6 episodes look stunning on blu ray. True Detective doesn’t look like your typical television show, each episode almost feels like it’s own mini movie here. It has slick cinematography, impressive production design, and it’s ice cold locations really pop on screen. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, German: Dolby Digital 5.1, and Czech: Dolby Digital 2.0 on this 2 disc set. True Detective Night Country pounds in your home system, it’s one of the better sounding TV shows out there. All of the dialogue is crisp, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH, French, German, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish subtitles. The first disc has “Meet the Detectives” is almost 3 minutes. It’s a quick chat with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. “New Chapter” is almost 3 minutes. It has interviews with the cast and crew. It has some quick clips from Night Country. It has “Episode Recaps” for the first three episodes that’s almost around 3 minutes total. The second disc has the almost 5 minute “Exploring Indigenous Themes”. This digs into some of the more interesting stuff for True Detective. “Max Inkblots” is a little over 3 minutes. It’s a similar promotional piece like Meet the Detectives on the previous disc. It has both lead actresses having some fun with Inkblots & their thoughts on them. It has the little over 2 minute “Setting”. This quick feature focuses on it’s icy and cold locations for True Detective Night Country. It has “Episode Recaps” for the last three episodes that’s a little over 2 minutes total. It comes with a slipcover and an insert inside. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!
