Quadrant Blu Ray Review (Full Moon Features)

Quadrant is a 2024 science fiction film produced and directed by Charles Band (Trancers franchise, Puppet Master franchise, Doctor Mordrid, Head of the Family, Hideous!, Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn, Parasite, The Dungeonmaster, Meridian, The Creeps, Evil Bong franchise, Gingerdead Man franchise, and Blood Dolls). It was written by C. Courtney Joyner (Prison, Class of 1999, Puppet Master franchise, Trancers III, Mandroid, Lurking Fear, From a Whisper to a Scream, and Doctor Mordrid). It was produced by Danny Draven (Ragdoll, The Haunted Casino, Trophy Heads, Puppet Master: Doktor Death, Demonic Toys franchise, Subspecies V: Bloodrise, Trancers: City of Lost Angels, and Sideshow) and 45 others. The concept for this was conceived in the 80’s and it was relaunched in 1995 but it was never fully developed until now. It’s the first entry from the brand new Pulp Noir sub-label from Full Moon Features. Ambitious scientists Harry (played by: Rickard Claeson from Prelude and A Body in the Basement) and Meg (played by: Emma Reinagel from Monster Mash, Happy Halloween, Prepare to Die, and The Exorcists) developed the top secret Quadrant program to test out dreams and experience other realities. The specially crafted helmet helps your mind to transport into a fantasy world where all your fears are triggered. The nightmares become very real when you go deeper in the subconscious. The experiment starts to backfire when test subjects Erin (played by: Shannon Barnes from Treasure) and Robert (played by: Christian Carrigan from Evil Lives Here, Dead of Winter, and Healing Towers) can’t be controlled anymore. The spirit of the infamous Jack the Ripper consumes one of them which causes a nasty killing spree. Can they escape this synthetic universe of the Quadrant before it’s too late???? Full Moon Features just launched Pulp Noir and Quadrant is a great start for this brand new universe from the independent studio. It’s the best film directed by the legendary Charles Band in at least 11 years. I was really supposed by this one. Full Moon can take a standard low budget and turn it into a few films with their creativity. Quadrant uses those smaller funds and spends it on all the right departments for this sci-fi horror hybrid production. It’s written by the talented C. Courtney Joyner, he takes this interesting concept from the 80’s and he adapts it to the modern world. Newcomer Shannon Barnes as Erin steals the show in Quadrant. Not only is she beautiful but she flexes her skills when it comes to this complicated role. Christian Carrigan as Robert is the original test subject for this risky experiment. He’s struggling to get back to reality but he has a connection with Erin right away since they are going through the same thing here. Rickard Claeson as Harry is the brilliant scientist that’s very confident in himself. He’s playing god, he pushes his two guinea pigs too far. Emma Reinagel as Meg is the voice of reason. She tries to fix and control the situation as it turns into a disaster. Quadrant has a extremely small cast but everyone is on point in this. This is some of the highest quality performances that I’ve seen from a Full Moon film in a long time. They play it very seriously and it doesn’t go way over the top like most of their other projects. Every woman in Quadrant looks amazing. Shannon Barnes, Lexi Lore (AIMEE: The Visitor), and Kaylee Banhidy (Bad CGI Gator) all provide some quality nudity. They are not shy at all in this. Quadrant has it’s slasher tendencies. It has some gruesome moments with plenty of gore from special fx artist Alan Tuskes (Texas Chainsaw, Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Mars Attacks!, House on Haunted Hill, The Green Mile, Thir13en Ghosts, Little Nicky, Tusk, You’re Next, Wishmaster, Cabin Fever, and The Faculty). Quadrant definitely delivers on the boobs and blood for all you diehard horror fanatics. One of the main things that stood out was the visual fx from known composer Chuck Cirino (Chopping Mall, Death Stalker II, Ghoulies IV, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard to Die, Sorceress franchise, Munchie franchise, and The Return of Swamp Thing). Most of the time for lower budget productions, the visual fx look cheap and awful to the point where they are more of a distraction. It’s probably the best work that I’ve seen for a Full Moon movie in forever, that’s usually one of their bigger flaws. Quadrant brings you back to the days in the 90’s when Full Moon dominated the direct to video market. It really reminds me of their peak years as a studio. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this but it’s one of surprises of the year so far. Quadrant is one of the more original Jack the Ripper films ever made. It’s so much better than expected. It’s lots of fun and very entertaining. It’s one of stronger replay value efforts from Charles Band in a long time, RECOMMENDED!!!!Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Full Moon Features! This 1080p (2.00:1) unrated transfer is one of better looking Full Moon films in recent years. It has great special fx, visual fx, creative production design, and stylish cinematography that even has some stunning black and white visuals. This independent production spends every cent it can to make this smaller feature look even bigger than what it is. It has a few different audio options which includes English: Dolby Digital 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on the disc. The audio is excellent when it comes to Quadrant. All of the dialogue is very clean, the ripping is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the 17 minute “Video zone: Behind the Scenes of Quadrant”. It has quick introductions with the cast and crew. It has all kinds of making of material and footage on here. It’s a fun inside look into the low budget production. It has the 10 minute “Quadrant Table Read” with the actors. I don’t think I’ve seen Full Moon include something like this on their extras so this is definitely unique. You get to experience the cast getting ready for the shoot in this. It has the little over 8 minute original “Pulp Noir Announcement” video. Full Moon creator chats about his brand new sub-label. He talks about his previous road show and the deadly ten experiment. He brings up that some concepts that he’s been wanting to do for years will finally be put into production which deals with some more science fiction. It has a variety of “Trailers’ from Full Moon Features including one for Quadrant. If you are curious, it’s currently streaming on Tubi. They just released an alternate version that’s in black and white. This home video release is a Full Moon Direct exclusive until December 10th, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
