Little is a 2019 comedy film directed & co-written by Tina Gordon (Peeples, ATL, Drumline, & What Men Want). Marsai Martin came up with the concept at 10 & she is youngest person to be an executive producer at 14 years old for this. This is Universal Pictures first 1.85:1 production since 2017. The budget was $20 million & it grossed $48.7 million at the box office worldwide. As a child, Jordan Sanders (played by: Regina Hall from Scary Movie franchise, Shaft, Barbershop: The Next Cut, & Law Abiding Citizen) was bullied. As an adult, she has become the bully as she runs her own tech company & treats everyone around her like garbage. A practicing magician child named Stevie (played by: Marley Taylor from Almost Christmas) wishes for Jordan to be a kid again to take her down a peg. The wish comes true the next morning, when Jordan becomes 13 again (played by: Marsai Martin from Black-ish, Fun Mom Dinner, & An American Girl Story: Melody 1963 – Love Has to Win). She asks her assistant April Williams (played by: Issa Rae from Insecure, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, A Bitter Lime, & The Hate U Give) for help with the company while Jordan is forced to go back to the same school that made her miserable. April is forced to pose as her aunt.

At school, Jordan is bullied again but she befriends three other outcasts Isaac (played by: JD McCrary from The Lion King & The Paynes), Raina (played by: Thalia Tran from Tiny Feminists), & Devon (played by: Tucker Meek from Under the Silver Lake, Union, & Worth Fighting For). Meanwhile, April has a hard time keeping everyone’s attention at work without Jordan there to instill fear into their hearts & souls. What’s more is that the company’s biggest client Connor (played by: Mikey Day from Saturday Night Live, Robot Chicken, & Mad TV) wants to hear a great pitch or he will move to a different firm. Because April was unable to reach Jordan on the phone, April tells Conner about the ideas of her product called Discover Eyes. Jordan becomes mad at April because April put in her ideas without Jordan’s permission which turns into a fight resulting in April quitting. After Jordan realizes how terrible she has been, she helps the kids perform at a pep rally that earns them the respect of the other students. April finds Stevie to try and help turn Jordan back to normal but things don’t work. Jordan has changed inside & vows to be a better friend to April and to support her pitch idea. This allows her to turn back into an adult the next morning, go back to work with a nice & positive attitude towards her employees. Can she stay with this way or will she go back to the old Jordan????

I wasn’t expecting much from Little, I seen the trailer a few times but it never did anything for me but the actual movie was much better than that. Little is basically a reverse version of Big & it works! It had a nice balance of drama & comedy here, the script was on point. The Jordan Sanders character goes through a lot & she changes during the feature. Regina Hall & Issa Rae played off each other great in this, their chemistry really elevated the production. Marsai Martin steals the show as young Jordan here & she gives one of best child performances that I’ve seen in a long time. That was a challenging role & she delivered in it. The other main kids & the office staff were a solid supporting cast. This one makes you think about how different people see you & shows how easy you can get lost in yourself with the wrong situations. If you are looking for a strong female comedy with a real message then I RECOMMEND giving this a shot sometime, it’s one of the better body swapping sub genre films in a long time & I always loved those type of flicks.

Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Universal! This 1080p (1.85:1) transfer looks good on blu ray & it’s definitely a solid upgrade compared to the DVD release. The visuals stand out on the costumes/wardrobe & the various locations on this.
