Attack of the Corn Zombies is a 2023 independent horror film directed by Steve Hermann (Return of the Corn Zombies, Desperate Souls, Blood Sisters, Night of the Dead Sorority Babes, and It Came from Somewhere) and Ashley Hefner (Echo, La Fée Verte, and Trepidity). It was written by Steve Hermann (In the Dark, The Doll, Girlfriend, and Morium). It was produced by Ann Myrna (Return of the Corn Zombies, Avaricious, Desperate Souls, They Came Back from Somewhere, Disremembered, Night of the Dead Sorority Babes, and It Came from Somewhere). It had an estimated budget of $10,000. It’s 1969 and all of the infected corn leads to an outbreak of the walking dead in a small Midwest town. With nowhere to run and isolated from the outside world, a group of unlucky friends and family must fight their way through the hordes of the undead to survive!!!!! It was written by Steve Hermann (Love Me Teddy Love Me Bear, Inner Beauty, Sorority Babes, and Avaricious). It was produced by Ann Myrna (Attack of the Corn Zombies, Leap of Faith, American Mother, Wherein Lies Continue, and Trepidity). It had an estimated budget of $30,000. In a desperate world ravaged by a deadly corn virus that creates blood thirsty zombies, a band of brave survivors embarks on a perilous journey. Their destination is a homestead that’s a sanctuary that promises safety amidst all of the chaos. As they struggle to battle the vicious undead, their hope continues to drives forward!!!! I’ve seen a few Steve Hermann films at this point, he likes to co-direct with upcoming actresses. You can tell if you have seen more than a few, they all have a similar style to them despite different collaborations so clearly he’s the one mainly behind the camera for most of these low budget projects. I do respect that he gives credit and a chance to people that want to learn. Both scripts have a similar vibe to them. It definitely feels like they are connected and in the same universe. Honestly, Attack of the Corn Zombies and Return of the Corn Zombies feel like your typical independent zombie production, so there’s nothing really new here but that’s not exactly a bad thing. They are solid and each feature knows what type of movie they are making so they deliver on what the audience would expect from something like these. Horror icon Lynn Lowry (Shivers, The Crazies, Sugar Cookies, Cat People, Model Hunger, and I Drink Your Blood) shines as Lynette in Attack of the Corn Zombies. She’s the best thing in it and the main reason to watch it. She just keeps killing it in all these independent movies over the last few years. The rest of the cast includes Paige Bourne (Chicago Fire), Beth Metcalf (Return of the Corn Zombies), Delilah Hefner (Return of the Corn Zombies), Mia Katz (Night of the Dead Sorority Babes), Magdalena Conway (Desperate Souls), Ann Myrna (72), Ashley Hefner (Blood Sisters), Joe Rosing (Welcome to the Game), Jake Yanko (Morium), Randall Cole (Mothman), Erica Dyer (Desert Fiends), Kelsey Livengood (Return of the Corn Zombies), and Beka (The John Wayne Gacy Murders: Life and Death in Chicago). The retro special fx for Attack of the Corn Zombies were way better than expected. It had a nice old school set up to it and it kept itself very fun. Return of the Corn Zombies goes for the it ain’t broke don’t fix it approach. It does have a familiar atmosphere with this follow up to the original. Upcoming scream queen Angel Nichole Bradford (Debbie Does Demons, Grandma, Crackcoon, Coffintooth, The Barn Part III, and Amityville Ripper) as Janice steals the show in Return of the Corn Zombies. She’s definitely the best thing in this sequel. She’s been all over the place when it comes to the independent scene and she’s always consistent. The rest of the cast includes Mel Heflin (CarousHELL 3), Hunter Redfern (Amityville Ripper), Dan Severn (WWE), Chanda Rawlings (Killer Campout Part II), Sammy Morningstar (The Meathook Massacre), Kelsey Livengood (Attack of the Corn Zombies), Beth Metcalf (Attack of the Corn Zombies), Delilah Hefner (Attack of the Corn Zombies), David J. Paul (Amityville Thanksgiving), Christopher Kahler (Preacher), Chris Ness (Haunted House of Pancakes), Chloe Lutz (Dracula: The Count’s Kin), Gwyneviere Ray (Roadkill), Casey Wayne Hupp (Terminator Salvation), and Kellen DeRuy (Desert Fiends). Return of the Corn Zombies is more of a drama compared to Attack of the Corn Zombies. The horror is still there mixed in but it’s a little different at times. So the original had more comedy to it and this sequel is a little more serious when it comes to it’s story. There’s a few decent subplots thrown in here during all of the chaos. The special fx are more CGI for this one. I think it would have been a little better without about 10 minutes because it does drag every once in awhile. I think it’s a decent little horror franchise that most zombie film lovers will enjoy. They are what you would want from something like this. They are both currently available on Tubi and Plex if you are curious about them!!!! Let’s discuss these high definition presentations from Bayview Entertainment! These two 1080p (1.78:1) transfers for both Attack of the Corn Zombies and Return of the Corn Zombies look really good for their lower budgets. They both have English: PCM 2.0 stereo tracks on the disc. It does have some crazy scenarios that stand out for the audio for the zombie series. All of the dialogue is very clean, the flesh eating is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. They both have English SDH subtitles. The only special features here for this home video release is a few Bayview Entertainment related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!
