The Beekeeper 4K Review (Warner Bros. / MGM)

The Beekeeper is a 2024 revenge film produced and directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Harsh Times, Street Kings, End of Watch, Fury, Sabotage, and Bright). It was written and produced by Kurt Wimmer (The Expendables 4, Spell, Children of the Corn, Equilibrium, Total Recall, Point Break, Salt, and Law Abiding Citizen). A kind-hearted landlady Eloise Parker (played by: Phylicia Rashad from The Cosby Show, Creed franchise, and Empire) commits suicide after falling victim to a phishing scam that leaves her broke. Her friend Adam Clay (played by: Jason Statham from The Fast and the Furious franchise, The Expendables franchise, Transporter franchise, The Mechanic franchise, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Meg franchise, Crank franchise, Snatch, Death Race, London, and Wrath of Man) takes it very personal and he wants to take down the corrupt company that’s ran by the powerful Derek Danforth (played by: Josh Hutcherson from The Hunger Games franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s, The Disaster Artist, Zathura, and Red Dawn) that robbed this woman out of everything. Adam just seems like a normal guy at first but once his vicious plan is set in motion, he proves that he’s something much different. One man’s gruesome campaign for revenge takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former dangerous operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers”!!!! The Beekeeper is one of the best action movies of the year so far. It’s one of the better Jason Statham projects in awhile plus it’s great to see director David Ayer make something that’s more his style these days. I really enjoyed the build up for the script. It has some solid twists. It’s full of hilarious one liners and it reminds me of those classic 80’s action movies from back in the day. It deals with scams which unfortunately happens all the time in real life. Originally, the Adam Clay character just seems your typical hard working guy. Once he’s hit with this tragedy, that all changes quickly. Jason Statham gives one of his more impressive performances in recent years as the lead in this revenge film. This is the perfect type of role for the legendary action star, he handles it with ease. This is a bad ass that’s brutal. Adam Clay has so much potential for other features later on. Phylicia Rashad as Eloise Parker really makes you feel for her character for the short time that she’s on screen. It’s an important role that really creates this whole situation. Josh Hutcherson as Derek Danforth is way better than expected as the spoiled rich kid that takes it too far here. Jeremy Irons (Watchmen, Dead Ringers, The Lion King, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Justice League) as Wallace Westwyld is the real villain in this. He’s the puppet master that manipulates and puts together everything that Adam Clay has so many issues here with his previous government experience. He’s the reason why Derek can do whatever he wants without expecting any backlash. Irons naturally is one of the greatest cinematic bad guys of all time. The rest of the supporting cast includes Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy), Bobby Naderi (Prison Break), David Witts (EastEnders), Michael Epp (Secret Invasion), Taylor James (Vikings: Valhalla), Jemma Redgrave (Doctor Who), Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), Don Gilet (EastEnders), Enzo Cilenti (Free Fire), Dan Li (The Continental), and Georgia Goodman (Wednesday). The Beekeeper is packed with so much violence, death, and action. It feels like a very dark adrenaline rush once it really kicks in. Every bad guy in The Beekeeper is beyond unlikable so you are always rooting for all their deaths before it actually happens. It has high quality fights and a variety of violent murders. It moves by fast and there’s never a dull moment with The Beekeeper. It’s one of most entertaining and morbidly fun experiences for this year. It might be my personal favorite action feature so far, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Warner Bros and MGM!!!! This 2160p (2.39:1) transfer with HDR10 looks great in 4K. Visually, The Beekeeper really stands out with it’s stylish cinematography, creative production design, and various interesting locations. This is one of the sharper looking action productions so far plus it really pushes it’s R rating at times. It has a few different audio options which includes English: Dolby Atmos, English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, and English: Dolby Digital 5.1 on the UHD. The audio is top notch here, this one to play if you want to show off your home system. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the vengeance is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH and Spanish subtitles. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on this home video release. It comes with a slipcover and a digital code. It’s currently streaming on MGM+. It’s available everywhere right now on home video including on Blu Ray and DVD. This should be in your collection of you are a fan of action, recent, or Jason Statham, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
