She Kills Blu Ray Review (SRS Cinema)

She Kills is a 2016 revenge film written, produced, and directed by Ron Bonk (House Shark, Hi-8, Strawberry Estates, Empire State of the Dead, The Vicious Sweet, Ms. Cannibal Holocaust, and City of the Vampires). It was executive produced by film maker Jonathan Straiton (Night of Something Strange, Johnny Z, Big Fish in Middlesex, and The Two Plates). It had an estimated budget of $8,000. When Sadie’s (played by: Jennie Russo from Fang, Camp Murder, Camp Blood franchise, The Challenge, Clay, and Return to Splatter Farm) fiancee is brutally murdered by a vicious gang called “The Touchers” lead by the ruthless Dirk (played by: Trey Harrison from Johnny Z, House Shark, Hi-8, and Night of Something Strange). This causes problems and tragedies with her own family. She finds out that she possesses a strange hidden power to help her in her desperate quest for some gruesome bloody revenge!!!! She Kills reminds me of Thriller: A Cruel Picture if it was made by Troma. It puts a different twist to the rape and revenge sub-genre. I love the Troma universe and this definitely has that vibe to it. It takes advantage of the popularity and resurrection of the sub-genre from 2007’s Grindhouse. She Kills has a strong start but it takes awhile to build up after that so patience is needed here. The main character Sadie from Jennie Russo starts out as a nerdy virgin that’s about to be married. She goes through so many drastic changes after dealing with death, a violent gang, and her own family acting very strange. She’s really good here as the antihero looking for some nasty vengeance. She’s nice eye candy and she’s not shy at all here when it comes to her body. Trey Harrison as Dirk is the trashy leader of The Touchers. He’s chewing up the scenery and goes way over the top with his performance. He’s hilarious with his weird facial and body hair, such an odd villain but he makes things interesting in She Kills. The rest of the cast includes Michael Merchant (Amityville Death House), Jody Pucello (Creeping Death), David Royal (House Shark), Martha Zemsta (Empire State of the Dead), Niecy Cerise (That’s My Boy), Matt Mendoza (Sex, Blood and Fairy Tales), Mateo Prendergast (Dominion: The Web Series), Kirk LaSalle (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Rebecca C. Kasek (Half Dead), and Jamie Morgan (Cocaine Werewolf). Most of the acting here goes for the live action cartoon approach and it has plenty of wacky characters. She Kills has all kinds of random stuff thrown in including a Bruce Wayne cameo during all it’s chaos. She Kills definitely rewards the audience for being patient with all the development and build up before it all explodes. Director Ron Bonk keeps pushing all of the violence, gore, sleaze, revenge, and nudity towards it’s wild finale. He knows exactly what type of feature that he’s making here. The special fx are very solid for it’s lower budget by artist Colby Flinchum (Hi-8 and Night of Something Strange). She Kills is hilarious without even trying so it kinda adds to it’s independent charm. I wish it had a better pace and flow to it for the first half but it pays it all off when it’s over. It’s nice to see an ambitious low budget exploitation production like this. It’s a solid mix of so many different things here. Yeah, She Kills probably fits in the it’s so bad it’s good category but it’s very entertaining and fun especially for it’s last 40 minutes. It’s currently streaming on Tubi, Plex TV, and a few others for free if you are curious about it after this coverage. I’m always down to watch a revenge flick especially if it’s ultra violent and sleazy!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from SRS Cinema! This 1080p (16:9) unrated transfer looks better than expected especially for it’s smaller budget. It has some nice visuals and stylish cinematography that stand out here for it’s locations. It has an English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc. The audio definitely picks up more for it’s crazy ending. All of the dialogue is very clean, the revenge is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director Ron Bonk. It has “Audio Commentary” #2 with director Ron Bonk and lead actress Jennie Russo. It has “Audio Commentary” #3 with director Ron Bonk and producer Jonathan Straiton. There’s so many options when it comes to more inside information and personal stories from She Kills with a variety of tracks. Director, writer, and producer Ron Bonk is joined by a few different people from the production on all of these commentaries. These are all nice companion pieces and it’s worth revisiting She Kills with all of these choices. It has the almost 5 minute “Behind the Scenes: Creating the 70’s Look for She Kills”. This started at Cinema Wasteland. It was originally going to be a double feature. It’s inspired by the 70’s and all of it’s Grindhouse influences from back in the day. It highlights some of the locations and costumes from the movie. Some of the original concepts are revealed here. It has 8 different “Trailers” for She Kills and 2 for Night of Something Strange.
