Dreamland Blu Ray Review (Paramount)
Dreamland is a 2019 drama film produced and directed by Miles Joris-Peyrafitte (As You Are, Gaslight, and Tank Girl Remake). It was written by Nicolaas Zwart (Here Comes Midnight and Riverdale). It was produced by actress Margot Robbie (Terminal, Dollface, Maid, Barbie, Tank Girl Remake, and Gotham City Sirens) for LuckyChap Entertainment. It had it’s world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival 2019. It had a limited theatrical release and it grossed $292,630 at the box office.
This takes place during America’s struggle in the Great Depression. Eugene Evans (played by: Finn Cole from Peaky Blinders, Animal Kingdom, Slaughterhouse Rulez, and F9) dreams of escaping his small Texas town when he discovers a wounded bank robber Allison Wells (played by: Margot Robbie from Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, Bombshell, The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus, and I, Tonya) that’s on the run from the law. She claims that she is innocent and it’s a big misunderstanding. He’s torn between claiming the large bounty for her capture that could help his struggling family which includes George (played by: Travis Fimmel from Raised by Wolves, Vikings, Warcraft, and The Beast), Olivia (played by: Kerry Condon from Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame, Better Call Saul, Unleashed, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), and Phoebe (played by: Darby Camp from The Christmas Chronicles 1/2 and NOS4A2) or his curious attraction to the seductive criminal with a mysterious past with cold blooded killer Perry Montroy (played by: Garrett Hedlund from Triple Frontier, Death Sentence, TRON: Legacy, and Four Brothers), Eugene must make a decision that will forever affect the lives of everyone he’s ever loved and known his whole life. Will he choose his family or this new love???? 
Dreamland is more of a drama than either a crime or thriller film that it’s being marketed as to be honest. It’s a little slow at first but it does pick up towards the middle and the finale makes up for it if you can be patient with this. The script is solid but I wish it had more of the backstory for Perry Montroy and Allison Wells’s crime spree rather than some small flashbacks. I guess they were trying to leave that more of a mystery and have the viewer use their imagination instead of seeing what they did in the past. Finn Cole hasn’t done much besides mainly television but he was great here as the lead. He had a strong performance and carried this feature. He has the potential to be a movie star if he gets the right roles in the future, he had amazing chemistry with Margot Robbie. Margot Robbie was the best thing about Dreamland. This is one of her best acting performances so far.
She was very seductive and mysterious when it came to her role. You didn’t really know if she was good or bad until towards the end. She is high quality eye candy like always, she is breathtaking & one of my favorite actresses right now because she always delivers. You know what’s crazy about this movie? Robbie wasn’t shy to show her body when she first started acting but she has become very popular in the last few years so she really hasn’t done anything that in a long time but she had no problem being sexy and getting nude here. She produced this one so this production seems little more personal to her than some of the other bigger roles that she does. Dreamland had a good small supporting cast that included Garrett Hedlund, Kerry Condon, Darby Camp, and Travis Fimmel that increased the quality of this film. It had excellent production design and they nailed that time period when it was the Great Depression. Like I said before, this one isn’t action packed or super violent. I will that I enjoyed the Bonnie and Clyde vibe it had towards the end. It’s more of a drama that turns into a love story. This is definitely worth checking out sometime especially if you are fans of the leads, RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Paramount Pictures! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks fantastic on blu ray. The cinematography and production design shine here and it has a nice old school feel to it. The English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track is good here and it has a killer boost towards the end for the finale. All of the dialogue is crystal clear and the music is elevated here. It has English, English SDH, & French subtitles. There’s no extras on the disc. It has a slipcover and a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
