Xpiation Blu Ray Review (Unearthed Films)

Xpiation is a 2017 independent horror film produced, shot, and directed by Domiziano Cristopharo (Red Krokodil, A Taste of Phobia, Doll Syndrome, House of Flesh Mannequins, and XXX Dark Web). In a large isolated cellar, a mysterious aristocratic woman (played by: Chiara Pavoni from XXX Dark Web, POE 4: The Black Cat, Violent Shit: The Movie, and Demonium) begins torturing a man with the help of a junkie (played by: Emanuele Delia and Simone Tolu from The Transparent Woman) while videotaping it. The torture escalates as we find out the secrets the man holds inside of him. Pleasure and pain are all on the menu as we find out the full meaning of The Trilogy of Death!!!!’Xpiation is brutal and every character in this is not very likeable so it makes watching the extreme violence in this pretty easy. Domiziano Cristopharo was creative with this low budget feature. He took advantage of one main location and a simple concept but he was able to make more interesting your typical torture porn entry when it comes to independent horror. Xpiation had some excellent visuals and camera work when it comes to it’s morbid environment surrounding the disturbed pleasure of a mysterious woman. She has a junkie doing all her torture as she watches and records her twisted vision. None of the actors here were shy about anything when it comes to the gore or nudity in Xpiation. This one is not for the squeamish or casual horror fan, it definitely pushes some boundaries. It doesn’t hold back and it’s damn near non stop torture for the entire running time. I did appreciate the little twist towards the end and it does makes sense for why this all happening. The 1080p (1.85:1) transfer looks great on this home video release. This low budget horror feature shines when it comes to it’s visuals and cinematography. The the 2.0 PCM stereo English audio is decent here but the score is dominant when it comes to the overall presentation. Almost 16 minute “Interview With Director” is a chat with Domiziano Cristopharo. He talks about his inspirations for the project and how it was put together. He mentions having a different lead originally but they weren’t conformable with the nudity here so it didn’t work out. It has 4 minutes of “Bloopers” and over a minute of “Photo Gallery”. It has various “Trailers” including Xpiation, Untold Story, and Premutos: The Fallen Angel. If you are into the Torture Porn sub-genre, independent horror, and extreme horror then you should check this one out. It’s available everywhere right now!!!!!
