Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey Blu Ray Review (Scream Factory)

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is a 2023 slasher co-written, produced, edited, visual fx, and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, The Killing Tree, Firenado, and Sky Monster). It was produced by Scott Chambers (Mary Had a Little Lamb, Three Blind Mice, Freddy’s Fridays, Tooth Fairy franchise, Mother Krampus, Pet Graveyard, The Leprechaun’s Game/Curse, and Easter Bunny Massacre) and Stuart Alson (Snake Hotel, Dinosaur Prison, Dinosaur Hotel franchise, Easter Bunny Massacre franchise, The Bad Nun franchise, Seized, Legacy, Locked In, and The Commando). The budget was only $100,000 and it grossed $4,940,331 worldwide at the box office. The sequel “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2” was made right away after it’s success. They are planning a whole Poohniverse for this popular horror franchise. When he was younger, Christopher Robin (played by: Frederick Dallaway) befriended a group of creatures that included Owl, Rabbit, Eeyore, Piglet (played by: Chris Cordell from Werewolf Cabal, The Elevator, Tooth Fairy 5, and Humpty Dumpty franchise), and Winnie the Pooh (played by: Craig David Dowsett from Tigger’s Reign of Terror) in the Hundred Acre Wood. Christopher got busy with college to become a doctor so his new friends felt abandoned. Five years later, Christopher (played by: Nikolai Leon from Alien Invasion, The Killing Tree, and Exit) returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with his fiancée Mary (played by: Paula Coiz from Tooth Fairy franchise and The Leprechaun’s Curse). He gets a surprise visit from his former friends who take out their revenge on him. Students Maria (played by: Maria Taylor from Dinosaur Prison), Jessica (played by: Natasha Rose Mills from Return of Krampus and Easter Bunny Massacre: The Bloody Trail), Alice (played by: Amber Doig-Thorne from Fanged Up and The Caller), Zoe (played by: Danielle Ronald from Three Blind Mice, Curse of Bloody Mary, and The Leprechaun’s Curse), Lara (played by: Natasha Tosini from Snake Hotel and Three Blind Mice), and Tina (played by: May Kelly from Three Blind Mice, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Nutcracker Massacre) rent a cabin nearby. These unlucky girls are all at the wrong place at the wrong time, the vengeful group starts to focus on them after holding Christopher hostage. Christopher meets Charlene (played by: Danielle Scott from Rag Doll, Monsternado, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and The Curse of Humpty Dumpty) while being trapped by the gruesome Pooh and his crew. These blood thirsty monsters are trying to satisfy their cravings for violence and death tonight. Who will make it out alive???? Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey literally made a killing at the box office and it spawned a whole horror franchise from only $100,000 originally invested which is very impressive considering how much that has been made from it this since then. They took classic children characters and turned them into horror villains as the rights went public domain. It has basically created a brand new sub-genre with all kinds of familiar kid friendly properties being flipped into something much darker. Blood and Honey probably would have been received so much better back in the 80’s because it reminds me of something put together when slashers were all the craze in cinema. I know with today’s standards and technology, it does comes off really cheap and lower budget than most out there in the independent market. I think the special fx and the look of the familiar monsters here kinda add to it’s silly charm. Let’s be real, no one will be praised for their acting performances in Blood and Honey but the cast knew what they were doing with this. It does have some nice eye candy, most of these actresses have been doing a variety of wild horror features lately. The whole production feels rushed to me but I thought it was fun. If you don’t take something like this seriously, you tend to enjoy it more. Winnie the Pooh definitely fits the it’s so bad that it’s good vibe. I wouldn’t go as far to call it good but it did it’s job, it was a gory slasher and it was very entertaining. I think it would be a blast with a group of friends while playing a drinking game. Turn off your brain and give it a shot. It’s worth checking out at least once.Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Scream Factory! This 1080p (2.40:1) uncut transfer looks very solid for being such a small production. The locations really stand out here when it comes to the visuals. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 on the disc. It’s about what you would expect from something like this. All of the dialogue is very clean, the bloodshed is boosted, and the music is elevated here. It has English SDH subtitles. “Something’s Wrong with Piglet” is almost 16 minutes. It has interviews with Scott Jeffrey, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, Natasha Tosini, and Danielle Scott. It’s a mini making of feature. They chat about it going viral when it was originally announced. They had to put together more money and rush it out after all the hype. They share their experiences on the low budget shoot. They talk about some behind the scenes stuff when working on Winnie the Pooh. Lots of detailed information and stories are thrown in for this quicker running time. It has a “Trailer”. There’s a really cool Walmart exclusive steelbook available of this same release if you want something a little more unique and collectible. This version is available everywhere right now!!!!
