Wally Meets Popeye Blu Ray Review (Silver Spotlight Films)

Wally Meets Popeye is a 2025 comedy written, produced, shot, edited, and directed by Steve Rudzinski (CarousHELL, CarousHELL 2, CarousHELL 3, Shingles: The Movie, and Curtains for Christmas). The Wally, Alexander, and Rick characters are featured in the Meowy universe plus a few of them are in Amityville Christmas Vacation. Popeye (played by: Clarence Seybert III from Street Sweeper, Curtains for Christmas, and A Meowy St. Patrick’s Day) has been distracted with an evil creature (played by: Roxanne Guarino from Cinema Insomnia with Mr. Lobo) on the island of Ohio that keeps trying to kidnap his Olive Oyl (played by: Carly Sonafelt from Air Fryer Slaughter, Bathtub Shark Attack, A Cheesy Christmas, and Crackcoon). Wally Griswold (played by: Steve Rudzinski from A Meowy Christmas, A Meowy Halloween, A Meowy St. Patrick’s Day, and A Meowy Christmas Vacation) randomly wins a trip to Ohio from a mysterious giveaway. Popeye and Wally decide to work together to solve this major monster problem before it gets much worse. Can these two unlikely heroes stop this dangerous threat???? Popeye was one of my favorites growing up so I’ll always have a soft spot for that iconic character. When he went public domain, all kinds of independent film makers took advantage of those expired rights. Wally Meets Popeye feels the most organic out of all of them so far. Director Steve Rudzinski puts the legendary sailor in his comfort zone which is comedy with a monster thrown in for good measure. Steve does a little bit of everything in this production. At 50 minutes, Wally Meets Popeye has a good flow and a consistent pace that keeps it’s audience entertained during it’s silly adventures. I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t really sold when Clarence Seybert III was originally announced for this project as Popeye. He didn’t look like Popeye at all but the impressive special fx from artist Cody Ruch (CarousHELL trilogy, 10/31 Part 2, 13 Slays Till X-Mas, The Mill, and Slaughter Drive) really transformed him into the classic role. The creative team for this raised $4000+ mainly for that department and it honestly elevates everything for this. Clarence Seybert III was much better than expected here. Steve Rudzinski is hilarious as the ambitious Wally Griswold. It’s a nice tribute to Chevy Chase’s Clark Griswold. I haven’t seen any of the Meowy franchise or Amityville Christmas Vacation but I enjoyed that he did whatever he wanted and he was always in his own little world while dealing with this chaos. The rest of the cast included Carly Sonafelt, Roxanne Guarino, Ben Dietels (Meowy franchise), Bill Murphy (Meowy franchise), Jillian Alice, Kyle Armstrong, David Denovchek (A Cheesy Christmas), and Melissa Sapienza (Killer Campout Part II). The main villain and creature for Wally Meets Popeye cracks me up every time it’s on screen. It adds to dark humor and gives it some independent charm because they know exactly what they are doing with it. It’s never meant to be serious and it’s so over the top. Wally Meets Popeye is very campy and it reminds me of a live action cartoon which fits this universe. The production value looks bigger than it’s actual budget. Now, I really want to watch and cover Amityville Christmas Vacation sometime after viewing the movie. Wally Meets Popeye is something that you can turn off your brain and just enjoy it for what it is. It’s a self aware comedy that delivers plenty of jokes and funny situations!!!! It has an “Audio Commentary” with writer, director, lead actor, editor, producer, and cinematographer Steve Rudzinski with lead actress Carly Sonafelt. They point out some easter eggs and tributes to other stuff. I love that Return of Swamp Thing gets all kinds of love. They bring up how fast they shot this. They chat about influences, the cast, characters, Popeye, and so much more. They drop all kinds of knowledge and inside stories. It has a little over 3 minutes of “Bloopers”. It has the little over 18 minute “Interviews”. It has a variety of conversations with some of the main people involved with this project. The director shares his appreciation for Popeye. The cast talks about their own history with the respected character. It has the almost 8 minute “Amityville to Popeye”. The director shares his original ideas for this production, it was originally going to be a sequel to Amityville Christmas Vacation. He wanted to give his Wally role as a standalone movie without cats this time. This is a very detailed look into how it all got started. It has a variety of 6 “Trailers” from Silver Spotlight Films.
