Walden Blu Ray Review (Uncork’d Entertainment)
Walden is a 2023 independent suspense thriller film written and directed by Mick Davis (Haunting Charles Manson, Trust in Love, Give Me More, Modigliani, My Dad’s Christmas Date, Father Christmas Is Back, and The Match). Walden Dean (played by: Emile Hirsch from Into the Wild, Speed Racer, The Girl Next Door, The Darkest Hour, Alpha Dog, Milk, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Killer Joe, and Lords of Dogtown) is a stenographer and being the ghost of the courtroom, his mind is agonizingly crammed witnessing the torrent of injustice, until now. Discovering he has a terminal illness sends him into a rage that has been simmering deep within him for years and now he is about to take justice into his own hands, in the most gruesome ways imaginable. Detectives Kane (played by: Shane West from A Walk To Remember, Dracula 2000, E.R., Nikita, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and Hunt (played by: Tania Raymonde from Lost, Goliath, Deep Blue Sea 3, and Texas Chainsaw) are investigating these brutal crimes. Will they track down the sneaky Walden???? Walden is an interesting independent suspense thriller. What if Dexter had autism and spoke with a southern accent?
Walden Dean kinda has that vibe. He’s someone that no one pays attention to in his small town. He experiences so many killers and villains getting away with their crimes every day at his court job. He finds out that he’s sick and he doesn’t really have much time anyways so he takes justice in own hands. Walden Dean is vicious as he tracks down all these evil people. I’ve never seen Emile Hirsch do anything like this in his career, it’s one of his most unique and strange roles in his career so far. He’s very awkward but he always means well. He just wants get vengeance for the victims that the law failed. Shane West is the main detective investigating this killing spree. He’s great in his role here, he’s more focused on other locals rather than the weird Walden Dean. It’s crazy to think if Walden was made 10 years ago with these two same leads, it would have easily been a major production. Unfortunately, lots of stuff has changed since both Emile Hirsch and Shane West were Hollywood stars. Walden is loaded with familiar faces like Tania Raymonde, Kelli Garner (Bully), David Keith (Daredevil), Steve Coulter (Oppenheimer), and Sunny Mabrey (Snakes on a Plane) for the supporting cast. Walden isn’t as graphic as I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be over the top and gory but it doesn’t get that level. I thought the set up for the finale was awesome. I wish they would have done more stuff like that in Walden. It has some decent suspense, good twist, and I enjoyed the concept. Walden is a solid low budget thriller, it’s worth checking out sometime.
