Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness Blu Ray Review (Unearthed Films)

Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness (aKa Visceral: Entre las cuerdas de la locura) is a 2012 extreme horror film written, edited, and directed by Felipe Eluti. It was produced by Daniel Vivanco (D7a, Beauty, El Mal Trato, and La Mujer De Iván). A washed up boxer (played by: Felipe Eluti) loses the biggest fight of his entire life. He starts to give up his only dream and finds that life is not worth living at this point. He steps through and unleashes an entity that torments him. It guile’s him to do unspeakable acts of torture and murder. As his disturbing body counts rises and all of the lives that cross his path are diminished. Is there any way to fight back to what he once was before all this bad luck and madness???? Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness mixes boxing with some gruesome horror. Visceral keeps it’s story and concept very simple, it’s all about the nightmare visuals for this one. Director, editor, writer, and lead actor Felipe Eluti does it all in Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness. He kept really busy on this low budget production and he handled all of his jobs with ease. His performance shows a desperate man with his dreams shattered and he’s losing his grip on reality as it all sets in. The rest of the supporting cast includes Carolina Salles (Mea Culpa), Felipe Ruiz, Valentina Varela, Pia Cardenas, Lucas García, José Manuel García (Amar Es Para Siempre), Gabriela Arancibia (La Poseída), Daniela Pardo (D7a), Claudia Mena (D7a), and Tamara Zuñega (Gloria Trevi: Ellas Soy Yo). The best thing about Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness is it’s special fx and brutal gore for it’s torture scenes from artist Samantha Schlack. Extreme horror is not for the squeamish and this independent feature delivers when it comes to that. Horror fans will appreciate how nasty and violent Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness gets. Plot is very thin and the only real character that gets some focus is the boxer but they knew exactly type of production they were making so it’s all about the splatter and mass bloodshed. It’s an interesting character study on a psychopath. I enjoyed Visceral for what it was, it’s rare to see something like this these days because most stuff is watered down, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Unearthed Films! This 1080p (1.77:1) unrated transfer is from a newer restoration. It’s a great upgrade compared to it’s previous DVD home video release. The special fx and gore really pop out for the visuals. It has an Spanish: LPCM 2.0 track on the disc. It has it’s moments when it comes to the audio especially during the tense scenes. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the torture is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director, editor, writer, and lead actor Felipe Eluti. It’s in Spanish. It has the little over 3 minute “Cineteca Nacional’s Massacre in Xoxo 2013″. It has all kinds of behind the scenes footage here at the event. They chat a little bit about the feature and they even reference it as a newer A Serbian Film. It’s in Spanish with English subtitles. It has the almost 2 minute”Behind the Scenes Gallery”.
