V/H/S Beyond DVD Review (Acorn Media)

V/H/S/ Beyond is a 2024 horror anthology film directed by Jay Cheel (Cursed Films and How to Build a Time Machine), Jordan Downey (ThanksKilling franchise and The Head Hunter), Christian Long (Lady of the Manor and The Real Stephen Blatt), Justin Long (Lady of the Manor and The Real Stephen Blatt), Justin Martinez (V/H/S and Southbound), Virat Pal (Recapture), and Kate Siegel (Lilly). It was written by Jordan Downey, Justin Long, Christian Long, Justin Martinez, Virat Pal, Evan Dickson (V/H/S/ 85), Kevin Stewart (ThanksKilling franchise), Benjamin A. Turner (Star Show), and Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Hush, The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, Gerald’s Game, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Oculus). It’s the 7th film in the horror franchise plus it has a spin-off and a mini series. It was produced by Josh Goldbloom (V/H/S franchise, Kids vs. Aliens, and This is Gwar) and Brad Miska (Terrifier 3, AMFAD, and the V/H/S franchise). In “Stork”, an elite police unit answers a call from a house. They run into some unexpected and terrifying results. In “Dream Girl”, it follows two ambitious paparazzis that sneak into the set of a rising music star looking for some fame and a nice payout. They quickly pay for their fatal mistake of trespassing. In “Live and Let Dive”, a skydiving trip turns into a living nightmare after their plane crashes into an unidentified object. The group must deal with some unexpected guests after their accident. In “Fur Babies”, respected animal rights activists investigate the private life of popular doggy daycare owner. Last but not least in “Stowaway”, a UFO believer follows some bizarre lights above the isolated Mojave desert and it turns into a brutal situation!!!! V/H/S Beyond is the 7th installment of the horror series. If you are into Aliens and Science Fiction then this might be your favorite sequel so far because it’s very heavy on those subjects here. All of the directors did a good job for this horror anthology. It has a few familiar names from the horror genre behind the camera plus writing like actor Justin Long, Jay Cheel, Jordan Downey, Justin Martinez, Mike Flanagan, and actress Kate Siegel. Like every previous horror anthology, there’s segments that are hit or miss for Beyond. My favorite was “Stork” and I would like to see an extended version of it someday. I love the chaotic first person shooter vibe to that one. “In Live and Let Dive” was much better than expected. “Fur Babies” is really weird and I actually enjoyed that about this short. It definitely stood out when it came to Beyond. The other shorts from this anthology were just okay to me. V/H/S is always one of the better found footage productions. It has all kinds of gore, violence, suspense, odd moments, and suspense. The interesting cast includes Trevor Dow (Clown Motel franchise), Mitch Horowitz (Cursed Films), Thom Hallum (Bull Shark franchise), James C. Burns (Transformers), Jolene Andersen (Hellraiser: Revelations), Phillip Andre Botello (The Art of Self-Defense), Michael J. Sielaff (Barry), Dane DiLiegro (Prey), Namrata Sheth (Guilty Minds), Braedyn Bruner (General Hospital), and Libby Letlow (Masked Rider). V/H/S Beyond keeps the tension and jump scares going. The special fx are very good for all the shorte and segments. I thought Beyond was a nice surprise considering it’s mainly about Aliens which makes it stand from all the others from before. It’s very fun and morbidly entertaining with some strong replay value to it. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss the special features from Acorn Media! It has the little over a minute “Pre-Visuals on ‘Live and Let Dive'”. It shows off the original plan for the skydiving. It has the almost 5 minute “Libby Letlow ‘Fur Babies’ Audition Tape”. It has the almost 17 minute “Do You Want a Selfie?: The Making of ‘Dream Girl'”. This is a great inside look into the horror short. It has fx tests, camera set ups, dance choreography, and so much more. It has the under a minute “Image Gallery” which includes “Live and Let Dive”, “Dream Girl”, “Stork”, and “Stowaway”. It has the little over 8 minute “Behind the Scenes of ‘Stork’ with IGN”. It has interviews with the cast and crew for the segment. It covers the last day of shooting. It has some great behind the scenes footage from it. It has the little over 5 minute “‘Stowaway’ Set Timelapse”. The cast and crew gives a personal view of it’s production. It’s a cool behind the scenes extra for this. All of the same exact bonus material from the U.S. home video release is on here.
