Vampire Time Travelers Blu Ray Review (Visual Vengeance)

Vampire Time Travelers is a 1998 horror comedy written, edited, composed, and directed by Les Sekely (I Know What You Did in English Class, The Not-So-Grim Reaper, and The Alien Conspiracy: Grey Skies). It was produced by Raymond Storti (Ground Zero, Merchants of Death, Sorority House Vampires, Haunted, Merchant of Death, and Amazon Warrior). It’s a follow up to 1998’s Sorority House Vampires. A group of college girls which includes Sue Anne Marie (played by: J.J. Rodgers from Two and a Half Men, Amazon Warrior, The Souler Opposite, The Secret Handshake, Nashville, and Sisters of Sin) pledging a sorority stumble into a hallucinatory mix of butt-biting vampires, unexplained time jumps, and increasingly ridiculous supernatural situations. Vampires These brave women are going through hell as they try to survive a night that’s spiraling out of control!!!! Vampire Time Travelers is a shot on video horror comedy that plays out like a spoof. It’s a no budget satire on the vampire sub-genre. It manages to mix in some unexpected things into this crazy concept. Director Les Sekely did a little bit of everything for this independent production. Lead actress J.J. Rodgers was better than expected as Sue Anne Marie. She’s the sister of someone that did some damage to vampires in the past and they wanted to take out their blood revenge on her for it. So she’s very unlucky and her friends get caught up in it due to their association. J.J. Rodgers did a few cameos on bigger TV shows so I recognized her right away, she’s probably the most established performer in this supernatural comedy effort. The rest of the supporting cast includes Lynne Baker, Ali Elk (I Know What You Did in English Class), Kat Facchino (Vampire Night), JC Grigg (The Not-So-Grim Reaper), Micky Levy (Human Prey), Carol Metcalf (The Not-So-Grim Reaper), Lori Morrissey (Emmanuelle in Space), Angelia Szekely (The Not-So-Grim Reaper), Jillien Weisz (Sorority House Vampires), Raymond Storti (Bloodfist VI: Ground Zero), and J. Adam Young (Killer Popcorn). Vampire Time Travelers isn’t loaded with gore, death, and violence, it’s more of a silly type of film. The humor is way stronger than the horror here. This is the very first time that I’ve watched this but from the title plus after seeing the trailer for it, I was honestly expecting this to be extremely sleazy and filled with nudity but it was completely tame. The director confirmed in an interview that he removed all of the nudity and another scene from the original VHS which is a little weird. Regardless, this blood sucking parody is fun and entertaining. It goes for the it’s so bad that it’s good approach. It has all kinds of random stuff that you would not think would pop up like a werewolf but I actually liked that about Vampire Time Travelers. It’s campy and it’s not ashamed to be beyond over the top, bite her in the butt song is hilarious. It goes by quickly and it’s shorter than most features so it has a good pace to it. It’s currently streaming on Tubi and Fawesome if you are curious about this one. Turn off your brain and enjoy this horror comedy that adds to the world of vampires!!!! This 1080p (1.33:1) transfer is from a new restoration from from the original tape elements approved by the director. This looks about what you would expect from a late 90’s SOV feature. It’s really good for what they had to work with, it’s never going to be reference quality but it’s the highest possible quality that Vampire Time Travelers will ever be at. The audio mainly shines for it’s rock soundtrack and score. All of the dialogue is very clean, the dark humor is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the brand new exclusive “Audio Commentary” with director Les Sekely. It has the little over brand new exclusive 19 minute “Interview” with director Les Sekely. He goes over the concept and how It got developed. It was originally set up as a sequel to Sorority House Vampires. They ended changing the title for it. He goes over his overall experience making it. He says he wanted to change a few things when he went back to re-edit this. He took out all of the nudity plus a joke scene that he didn’t think worked. IIt has a brand new exclusive little over 14 minute “Interview” with actress JJ Rodgers. She chats about her career. She brings up some of the bigger television gigs that she has gotten over the years. She said that she originally wanted to audition for a different role here but the director convinced her to do this nicer lead character instead. She answers several questions about herself and the film for this. It has the almost 11 minute brand new “Interview” with actress Angelia Scott. She chats about working with her dad for this and other movies over the years. She didn’t really plan on being an actress but it just happened that way. She goes over some of the scenes and her thoughts on it. She shares some memories and stories related to the productions. It has the exclusive little over 21 minute “Interview” with director of photography Dennis Devine and assistant director Steve Jarvis. They chat about how they got involved with this project and what they did during it. They talk about some previous films that they worked on together. Lots of information about some behind the scenes stuff and business situations. It has the “Visual Vengeance Trailer” for Vampire Time Travelers. It has the bonus little over 69 minute 2000 low budget horror comedy feature “I Know What You Did in English Class” from director Les Sekely. The cast includes Ali Elk (Bug), Rita Fiora (Vampires of Sorority Row), Bonnie Gillespie (Airheads), Kathryn Glass (Vampires of Sorority Row), Jimmy Jerman (Decay), Dawn Lafferty (Timequest), Gary A. Rainer (The Not-So-Grim Reaper), Jeannie Roshar (Hookers Inc.), Les Sekely (Merchants of Death), Charlene Simpson (Gang Related), and Russell Towne (The Not-So-Grim Reaper). It has a brand new exclusive “Audio Commentary” for English Class with director Les Sekely. It has a little over 16 minute brand new “Interview” with director Les Sekely about English Class. He says it has nothing to do with the bigger horror series with a similar name. He never even seen it when it came up with the title. He was motivated to make another full length feature. He wanted to make something silly. He describes it as A Nightmare on Elm Street meets Airplane. He’s very passionate about his work and it shows in this. It has a little over 23 minute exclusive “Interview” with cinematographer Russ Lindsay about English Class. This came from a radio show with Les Sekely. They won Emmys for it. They went their separate ways for a long time. They actually turned this into a feature after that re-connecting. It has a new almost 16 minute “Interview” with director of photography Dennis Devine and production assistant Steve Jarvis about English Class. They chat about their involvement with this. They mention the various things they did behind the scenes or even in front of the camera. Les moved from Los Angeles to Cleveland while making this. They go over Amazon Warrior and some other stuff they did collaborations on. It has an exclusive little over 5 minute “Interview” with actor Russell Towne about English Class. He chats about his interactions with Les over the years. He talks about his character from this. He mentions some experiences from it but he can’t remember much from it. He says it was a high energy production. He brings up horror and spoofs. It has the “Visual Vengeance Trailer” for I Know What You Did in English Class. It also includes the little over 32 minute 2001 horror comedy short film “Not So Grim Reaper” directed by Les Sekely. It was originally featured as an episode from the TV series “The Alien Conspiracy*. It follows a documentary filmmaker that goes with the Grim Reaper for a few days. He shoots footage and he unfortunately finds out what it’s like to be … Death! It has some of the same cast as Vampire Time Travelers in it plus a few others. It has a variety of “Trailers” from Visual Vengeance. This is a basically a double feature home video release, it has all kinds of bonus material for both movies plus an additional short feature. Visual Vengeance continues to kill it when it comes to obscure and SOV productions. The packaging is amazing as always. It has a slipcover, Vampire Time Travelers artwork underneath, I Know What You Did in English Class artwork underneath, retro sticker sheet, and a mini poster for Vampire Time Travelers. This is worth adding to the collection if you are into SOV Horror and the vampire sub-genre. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
