Twinless Blu Ray Review (Lionsgate)

Twinless is a 2025 dark comedy film written, produced, and directed by James Sweeney (Straight Up, With Love, and Brooklyn Love Stories). It was produced by David Permut (Hacksaw Ridge, Face/Off, Youth in Revolt, Charlie Bartlett, Blind Date, Trapped in Paradise, Surviving the Game, and Consenting Adults). It grossed $1,400,477 worldwide at the box office during it’s limited theatrical run. Two strangers Roman (played by: Dylan O’Brien from Love and Monsters, Bumblebee, Send Help, Saturday Night, The Outfit, Teen Wolf, The Maze Runner franchise, and Infinite) and Dennis (played by: James Sweeney from Boom Box Kids, David, Before Midnight Cowboy, and Live Read) meet in a twin support group. They form an unlikely bond, they search for solace and identity without their other halves no longer around. When Roman meets Dennis’s ebullient colleague Marcie (played by: Aisling Franciosi from Game of Thrones, Stopmotion, Speak No Evil, The Nightingale, The Fall, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter), things begin to fall apart as each man harbors secrets that could unravel everything!!!! Twinless is very dark and weird so it definitely grabbed my attention right away. It deals with a messed up situation and some shady people. The audience honestly never knows what direction it’s going so the unpredictable vibe just adds to the tension here as it all builds uy. It’s written, produced, directed, and lead acted by James Sweeney. He looks very familiar but I don’t think I’ve seen anything with him in it. He is the mysterious Dennis in Twinless. His character is really messed up in this. I won’t spoil why but it kinda shocks you as it fully develops. He is really creepy early on, the way he looks at Roman during the original meeting at the group together. Clearly something isn’t right with Dennis but it keeps itself unknown at first. He’s extremely awkward and his actions just keep getting worse as their friendship gets stronger. Dylan O’Brien is very impressive as both Roman and Rocky in this. Yes, they are twins but they are vastly different from each other. It proves that during all of the flashbacks. This is an interesting subject especially for a darker comedy because it’s a known fact it happens to someone when they lose their sibling. Dylan O’Brien has always been a talented performer but he just keeps getting better as he gets older. This is a powerful performance, he’s trying to live his life after this tragedy and he really wants to get out there for a new friendship to make things better after all of the pain. The chemistry between these two is ready to explode at any time and it could end up badly so it has Twinless consistently roping you in for more. The beautiful Aisling Franciosi as Marcie comes out of nowhere. She’s surprising as the multi talented receptionist that has so much potential. Dennis doesn’t think much of her and their conversations are always casual so he doesn’t expect what happens when his two friends finally interact. She doesn’t mess around once it happens and she’s sharp like a detective. She calls out Dennis on all of his bullshit so it changes everything. The amazing Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls, Bad Santa, Parenthood, Because I Said So, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and Evan Almighty) as Lisa go completely against typecast here. She shocks the world as the cold as ice mother of the twins. She obviously favored Rocky and she doesn’t seem to react much to Roman especially when he tries to comfort her during their loss. It’s an unexpected turn from probably the greatest television mother of all time so I loved her performance in Twinless. It just proves that Lauren can do anything if given the proper material. The rest of the supporting cast includes Arkira Chantaratananond (The Plan), Kody Harvard (Test Screening), Tasha Smith (Couples Retreat), Cree (Big Sky), Katie Findlay (How to Get Away with Murder), Susan Park (Vice Principals), Chris Perfetti (Abbott Elementary), Davis King (Pig), Pauline Dorsey (Paradise Records), François Arnaud (The Borgias), and Jannette Bloom (Sing to Me Sylvie). Twinless isn’t afraid to push the boundaries and it do whatever it wants. It’s all about loss, friendship, and unconditional love. It’s a touching and odd look at grief between two completely different scenarios but over the exact same person. It’s an interesting approach to the buddy comedy sub-genre. They both need something to fill their empty void and they need each other for that. It gets so chaotic and the viewer knows it won’t turn out good. The ending is not what I thought it would be, so I do appreciate being surprised because most cinema is so damn cliche these days. Twinless is not for everyone but it’s a unique dive into life after change through many perspectives. It keeps itself very entertaining and compelling, the replay value is there for sure. It’s something that is better enjoyed going into it without a trailer or tease of it. It stays with you long after it’s finished, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Lionsgate! This 1080p (1.85:1) transfer looks excellent for it’s home video debut on Blu Ray. It has stylish cinematography, quality production design, and attention grabbing locations for it’s sharper visuals here. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the disc. It’s more of a talky feature but it does actually a few fights in it so there’s a little action to it. The soundtrack and score stands out the most when it comes to this department. All of the dialogue is crisp, the bromance is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH and Spanish subtitles. There’s no special features on this disc. It does come with a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now including Moviezyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
