The Woman in the Yard is a 2025 horror film produced and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, House of Wax, The Shallows, Black Adam, Jungle Cruise, Non-Stop, Run All Night, The Commuter, and Carry-On). It was written by Sam Stefanak (F Is for Family). It was produced by Jason Blum (The Purge franchise, Insidious franchise, The Invisible Man, Get Out, Split/Glass, Happy Death Day 1/2, Halloween, The Black Phone, Freaky, The Hunt, MA, The Craft: Legacy, Night Swim, and Upgrade). The budget was $12,000,000 and it grossed $23,311,502 at the box office!!!! When the sun is bright and the wind is still, she comes to you like a sudden chill. Draped in black from head to toe, an otherworldly woman (played by: Okwui Okpokwasili from The Interpreter, I Am Legend, Agatha All Along, and The Exorcist: Believer) sends a family into a seemingly inescapable nightmare. After grieving the death of her husband David, Ramona faces a brand new fear when this mysterious figure appears outside her farmhouse. With the mysterious woman continually creeping closer, Ramona (played by: Danielle Deadwyler from Station Eleven, The Harder They Fall, The Bear, Carry-On, and Watchmen) must protect her children Taylor and Annie from the chilling grasp of this haunting entity whose unknown intentions are anything but peaceful!!!! The Woman in the Yard is an interesting approach to the psychological thriller sub-genre. Horror veteran Jaume Collet-Serra teams up with producer Jason Blum for something different when it comes to thrills and horror. I do think it would have been tighter and more intense with around 8 minutes removed to help with it’s pace. The Woman in the Yard takes it’s time to develop and builds up all the suspense before it finally comes undone so patience is required here. Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona is already falling apart due to tragedy before this insanity begins. Now, she must fight for her family to survive this unknown monster. Okwui Okpokwasili is very creepy as the woman. They keep the villainess role a mystery so it adds to the uncomfortable atmosphere. The rest of the supporting cast includes Peyton Jackson (First Christmas), Estella Kahiha (BMF), Russell Hornsby (Mike), and Chad Pitter (Fatal Attraction). The Woman in the Yard has some twists and it has finale that makes you think more about it. This horror is traumatized from grief and depression, it just becomes something else after it all settles in. I realize lots of people are not that patient when it comes to cinema and The Woman in the Yard definitely tested that with some audiences because it got some harsh reviews overall. I wasn’t sure what to expect with it but it’s honestly better than I thought it would would be. I appreciate and respect that it didn’t want to be like everything else. The entire cast showed up in this and there’s not a single weak performance in this thriller. I would suggest checking this out on Peacock before making a purchase because it’s definitely not for everyone but it’s very unique!!!! It’s a very stylish production that’s highlighted by it’s excellent production design. The simple farmhouse location feels like another major character in this. It has a few different audio options which includes English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1, and French: Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 on the disc. This is one of the better sounding horror features of the year. It plays on it’s tense moments and score. All of the dialogue is crisp, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has the little over 8 minute “Making The Woman in the Yard”. It has interviews with Jaume Collet-Serra, Jason Blum, Danielle Deadwyler, and others. They give the project high praise and they show their appreciation for it. They chat about the characters and the cast for the horror movie. This is a quick hype up piece about The Woman in the Yard. The best material from is from director Jaume Collet-Serra. It has the little over 5 minute “Beneath the Veil”. It has interviews with a variety of people including the villain herself Okwui Okpokwasili. They all chat about the mysterious and creepy title role. They go over this threat and it’s powerful presence during this chaos. This collector’s edition comes with a slipcover and a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
