The Witch: Part 2: The Other One Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

The Witch: Part 2. The Other One is a 2022 science fiction action horror film written and directed by Park Hoon-jung. It’s sequel to the 2018 film The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion. The film opened at number one at South Korean box offices and surpassed one million admissions after four days,and two million after eleven days of release. The Witch: Part 2 is currently the fifth highest-grossing Korean film of 2022 with a gross of US$21.64 million and 2.80 million viewers!!!!Years ago, a female teenager is taking a bus ride with her friend when they mysteriously change routes. A gas is thrown into the bus, causing everyone inside the vehicle to lose consciousness. A team abducts the young woman who wakes up on a stretcher, seeing that the bus incident was faked to look like an accident. Dr. Baek and her twin reassure her, knowing that she is pregnant with fraternal twins, they say that her pregnancy will be mysteriously important. In the present day, a girl nicknamed Ark 1 escapes from a secret laboratory after killing all soldiers and scientists there. She gets lost in the forest, hearing her mother’s voice calling her. She is then kidnapped by the henchmen of the dangerous gangster Yong-Doo as they pass on the road in a van. Kyung-Hee, another abductee, is there because she refuses to give up ownership of her house to Yong-Doo. Along the way, the girl causes an accident after one of the henchmen ends up touching her. Kyung-Hee takes the girl with her and calls her uncle for help. Her uncle performs surgery on Ark 1 to remove all the experimental devices from her skin. Kyung-Hee ends up taking the girl with her to her house, where she lives with her brother, Dae-Gil. Meanwhile, Dr. Baek receives a visit from Jang, the head of the secret institute. They have to stop this apocalypse and make sure there’s no doomsday with this science gone wrong. They must fight back and protect themselves from this evil!!!!I thought the original Witch was one of the best Asian films of it’s year and this sequel is a nice follow up to the original. Director Park Hoon-jung has impressed me with everything that I’ve seen from him so far. He always has a great visual style behind his work and his concepts are always unique. This had a solid cast and the acting here definitely improved everything to another level. This dark action feature had a solid balance of violence and science fiction. The Witch 2 stands out from most of the other Asian features this year. It’s not as good as the original but it’s still a respectable sequel. It had quality production design, fx, and the music was on point. Considering it’s success this might end up being a trilogy. If you are a fan of the first one or darker Asian cinema, I recommend it. This deserves more attention, check it out!!!!Let’s discuss the high definition presentation and special features from Well Go USA. This 1080P (2.39:1) transfer looks fantastic on blu ray. It’s one of the best looking home video releases of the year from Well Go USA. It has a few different audio options which includes Korean: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Korean: Dolby Digital 2.0, English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on the disc. It’s a solid sounding home video release. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, all the thrills are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English subtitles. “Behind the Scenes” is a little over 4 minutes. It has a “Trailer” and various other “Trailers” from Well Go USA. It also comes with a slipcover. It’s available everywhere starting today!!!!
