The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 – 3 Blu Ray Review (Acorn Media)

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is a 2023 horror television series co-written, executive produced, and created by David Zabel (ER, Detroit 1-8-7, and Mercy Street). It was directed by Daniel Percival (Waking the Dead), Michael Slovis (The Walking Dead), Tim Southam (Bates Motel), Paco Cabezas (Fear the Walking Dead), and Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead, Creepshow, and Galyntine). It’s executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead universe, Terminator franchise, Aliens, The Abyss, Tremors, Raising Cain, Hulk franchise, The Punisher franchise, and Bad Dreams). It got renewed for it’s 4th and final season. It’s a spin-off from The Walking Dead!!!! Daryl Dixon (played by: Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead, The Boondock Saints franchise, Mimic, 8MM, Blade II, Deuces Wild, American Gangster, and Ballerina) continues his nightmare journey across a broken but resilient post apocalyptic France as he is desperate to try to find a way back home after all of this chaos and blood thirsty walkers looking to eat anyone that remains while they just tries to survive it all!!!! The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is one of the best spin-offs from the popular horror television franchise. Dead City is probably my favorite but this is a very close 2nd compared to all of the others. Daryl Dixon was never meant to be a major character in The Walking Dead franchise but he’s probably the biggest fan favorite at this point when it comes to everyone. What makes this sequel stand out from all of the others is that it actually takes place overseas unlike the rest of them. The change of locations plus it’s European atmosphere is refreshing compared to the past vibes that were done over and over with The Walking Dead. It goes from France to Spain. It’s haunting soundtrack is like it’s own separate character in this, it just makes it feel like darker. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon does drag at times but it’s worth your patience because it always has a nice payoff to it. It’s a quality mix of horror, post apocalypse, and western for it’s overall style. Norman Reedus is at his best as Daryl Dixon. He comes back to the antihero role with ease. This follow up shows more humanity from the usual bad ass. It’s a fully developed and it just shows a whole new did to him which helps in certain situations. Melissa McBride (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Dawson’s Creek, The Happys, and The Mist) returns as the questionable Carol Peletier from The Walking Dead world, she makes a real impact in Season 2 and beyond. She gets more material to work with and it completely expands the known role. She has a strong bond with Daryl so it really makes sense to bring her into spin-off. It adds something familiar because this TV show is the most estranged from the original. It doesn’t try to be a copy of anything, it goes on its unique path. The rest of the supporting cast includes Romain Levi (Dracula), Louis Puech Scigliuzzi (Show Me More), Clémence Poésy (In Bruges), Anne Charrier (Chefs), Laïka Blanc-Francard (Stalk), Eriq Ebouaney (Kingdom of Heaven), Eduardo Noriega (Open Your Eyes), Stephen Merchant (Logan), Óscar Jaenada (The Losers), Alexandra Masangkay (The Platform), Hugo Arbues (The Warning), Joel De La Fuente (Hemlock Grove), François Delaive (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Adam Nagaitis (The Terror), and Nassima Benchicou (NCIS: Tony and Ziva). As you can see, it’s an international group of actors that are all from somewhere else in this. My favorite episodes so far have been “L’âme Perdue”, “La Dame De Fer”, “Deux Amours”, “Coming Home”, “Le Paradis Pour Toi”, “Au Revoir Les Enfants”, “La Justicia Fronteriza”, and “Limbo”. Those stood out the most but The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is always consistent. I wish the villains were better here, they are just average especially compared to some of the previous classic baddies from The Walking Dead universe. The zombies or the walkers look top notch but that’s no surprise. This horror television series delivers when it comes to it’s gruesome special fx and gore. That’s the true highlight for everything since those are the main connection with it all. The past is important to everyone’s journey and it continues to come up. Each season has it’s own unique arch so there’s all kinds of variety with every adventure. I thought it was a great idea to keep this sequel shorter every season because it moves faster with all of their scenarios. I’m looking forward to the next and final season, it has some crazy twists teasing a return from a past character. RECOMMENDED!!!! Each season switches it up when it comes to it’s style. The gritty cinematography, isolated locations, and destructive production design pops when it comes to the visuals. Season 1 has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Spanish: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks. Season 2 and 3 has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks for the rest of the show. The chaos is all over the place for this addition to the world of The Walking Dead so the audio is excellent throughout the entire collection. It’s packed with horror, suspense, and action with a perfect score. All of the dialogue is crisp, the flesh eating is elevated, and the music has a massive boost to it. Season 1 has English SDH and Spanish subtitles. Season 2 and 3 has English SDH subtitles. This is loaded with all kinds of extras for this 6 disc set. It has plenty of behind the scenes material, panels,and documentaries for the entire series so far. Season 1 has the 24 minute “Cast Diaries” that broken down into 6 segments. It has the almost 43 minute “Show Me More”. Season 2 has the 3 minute “Pre-Premier Look at Season 2”. It has the 43 minute “Show Me More”. It has all of the “Episode Insiders”. It has the 46 minute “San Diego Comic-Con 2024 Panel”. Season 3 has the little over 53 minute “Panel at Comic-Con 2025”. It has the almost 43 minute “Show Me More”.
