The Town Without Halloween Blu Ray Review (Indie Rights)

The Town Without Halloween is a 2024 independent horror film co-written, shot, edited, and directed by Jacob Ennis (Stash, Red River, Haunted Kentucky: Spirits of the Bluegrass, and Kill Granny Kill!). It was co-written, produced, and edited by Gregory W. Brock (Shoot the Moon, Point Pleasant, Red River, and The Killbillies). In a town obsessed with Halloween traditions, a group of teens which includes Jennlin Marshall (played by: Adi Loehe from Looky-Loo), Millie Anderson (played by: Ansley Trivedi from The Act), Kyle Morton (played by: Ayden Payne from Roadkill), Luxenburg Talbott (played by: Leonard Sandifer), and Tevin Dandridge (played by: Roman Scott from The Wanderer) stumble upon the Mayor Wembly’s (played by: Sonny Burnette from Mom and Dad) weird scheme to abolish the beloved holiday. Something doesn’t seem right with all the locals after a meeting. Black magic has corrupted the small town. They all must come together and save their community before Halloween itself is gone forever!!!! The Town Without Halloween is a nice homage to 80’s horror and all those small monster features from back in the day. It kinda has a Ghoulies meets The Goonies vibe to it. It opens up with a creative title sequence. The script puts some kids to the test where they need protect their favorite holiday Halloween from their Mayor and some unknown sinister puppet master that’s creating all these problems for their community. Adi Loehe, Ansley Trivedi, and Ayden Payne stand out the most as the leads in The Town Without Halloween. That’s one of the more impressive things about this small independent holiday horror feature. It actually has some solid performances. The rest of the supporting cast includes Sonny Burnette, Leonard Sandifer, Roman Scott, Heather Harlow (Psycho Ape: Part II – The Wrath of Kong), Jason Crowe (Harvest Lake), Dixie Gers (Crazy Fat Ethel), Kayla Perkins (Wicked Ones), Erica Dyer (Murdercise), Jacob Ennis (Mountain Mafia), Austin J. Rutherford (Friday the 13th: The Awakening), Melissa O. Bowen (Fighting the Fire), Walker J. Hunt, Billy Crank (Corky Romano), George E Bonilla (The Art of Killing), Dave Haney (The Killbillies), James William Smith (Kill Granny Kill), and Ka’ssee Rhe’anne (Friday the 13th: The Awakening). There’s more than a few familiar faces in this. The Town Without Halloween has a great fall atmosphere to it. The little creatures add something interesting to this. The small budget special fx are much better than expected and it adds to it’s small budget charm. There’s a good mix of comedy with all the horror. It’s more of a family friendly type of movie but it does have a few darker moments to it. It has potential for a sequel or even going further for a possible franchise if done right. This is one of those rare times when the movie is a huge upgrade compared to it’s artwork. I wasn’t expecting much at all to be honest and this ended up being a pleasant surprise. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Indie Rights and Candy Carnage Productions! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks great for being on such a small budget. This independent production uses it’s locations wisely and it really adds to it’s Halloween vibe plus it has colorful cinematography that shines here. It has an English Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track on the disc. The audio stands out when it comes to it’s score and it’s sound design. All of the dialogue is very clean, the adventures are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. The only extra is the “Trailer”. This is a M.O.D (BD-R) home video release.
