The Tank Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)
The Tank is a 2023 horror film written, produced, and directed by Scott Walker (The Frozen Ground and Ordan’s Forest). Ben (played by: Matt Whelan from Go Girls and Narcos) and his wife Jules (played by: Luciane Buchanan from The Night Agent and Sweet Tooth) are in for a shock when they inherit an abandoned property from Ben’s recently deceased mother. She kept the place a secret. It’s been untouched for around 40 years the house includes a stunning private cove and beach. The potential and perks of this location seem too good to be true. Why was this property kept a secret for so long? While Jules explores through the house looking for answers, Ben goes to repair the buried water tank, not knowing that in doing so he is unleashing a mysterious creature that protects it’s home and surroundings at any cost including death to those it considers trespassers!!!!This is definitely in the top 5 when it comes to Well Go USA releases this year! This one has a smaller cast but it works in it’s favor. The two leads have amazing chemistry in The Tank. It’s one of slick and creative ventures where they really focus on one main location and it becomes the star of it all. I will say that you have to be patient with The Tank because it takes around 40 minutes to really sink it’s teeth into everything. The script is character development heavy and it has a nice slow burn build up to it. Don’t expect a non stop thrill ride, lots of action, or anything like that with this horror feature.
It takes it’s time to really explore more which makes you anticipate it a little more than usual but I personally think it’s worth the wait. I really liked the old school special fx approach with this production. It reminded me something from the 80’s. The Tank wants to keep it’s monster more of a mystery which is very rare these days when it comes to cinema. I appreciate that the director took a different approach when it came to this sub-genre. The Tank feels more like a throwback and that’s refreshing. I know this one will get mixed reactions but if you end up digging the vibe then you will most likely love this movie after it’s finished. RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s discuss the high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer definitely stands out with it’s main location and dark cinematography. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on the disc. All of the dialogue is very clean, the tension is elevated, & the music has a killer boost to it when it comes to the audio here. It has English SDH subtitles. “A Look into The Tank” is a little over 3 minutes. It has interviews with the director and some of the cast. “Making the Creature” is a little over 5 minutes. It’s a behind the scenes look for the special fx for this low budget production. Plus it has an interview with the actor that performed in the creature suit. It has a “Trailer” for The Tank plus other “Trailers” from Well Go USA home video releases. It also comes with a slipcover. This one is available everywhere right now. CHECK IT OUT!!!!
