The Only Ones Blu Ray Review (DeskPop Entertainment)

The Only Ones is a 2024 horror film written, edited, casting, shot, and directed by Jordan Miller (The Red Effect and Three). It was executive produced by Jim Krut (Midnight in the Mortuary, Serious Profession, Coffintooth, The Slasher Nurse, and The Maladjusted). It had an estimated budget of $50,000. A group of friends which includes Casey (played by: Cayla Berejikian from Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor), Valarie (played by: Emily Classen from Ape Canyon), Nicky (played by: Paul Cottman from Where The Scary Things Are), Zach (played by: Zach Ruchkin from Fence), Jude (played by: Jeb Aufiero from The American Miracle), and Sarah (played by: Tatiana Nya Ford from Project LETHE) plans unravel when a string of misfortunes spirals into some unfortunate bloodshed. Paranoia runs wild from this close group. Trust crumbles as the remaining survivors are forced to confront harrowing the dark truth that sometimes, the deadliest threats come from within!!!!! The Only Ones kinda teases you at first. It starts out with an awesome killer named Boneface with some gruesome kills. It feels very familiar then it just completely goes a whole new direction when you get comfortable. Director Jordan Miller does something totally different with this low budget slasher. It’s a very paranoid and it has an unknown environment for The Only Ones. The main cast of friends includes Cayla Berejikian, Emily Classen, Tatiana Nya Ford, Zach Ruchkin, Jeb Aufiero, and Paul Cottman. They are all their own type of person in this. None of them are really alike, you kinda wonder how they are all close friends because honestly none of them have the same vibes at all. It brings an interesting dynamic to this group. The rest of the cast includes Brett Wagner (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Jim Krut (Dawn of the Dead), Nancy Anne Ridder (Scream), Chanda Rawlings (Crust), Jesse L. Green (The Jester), Amanda Shafer (Tommy Machismo), Christopher Inlow (Voorhees), Matt Burns (Shriekshow), and Hoss Russell (Voorhees). The Only Ones is full of surprises and you never know what’s going to happen next here. It’s definitely very original when it comes to the independent scene. It’s nothing like all those other horror or slashers out there but I think it’s kinda hurts it a little bit. I was very excited about how it began and it reminded me of something from the 80’s then it just flipped it all. I really preferred it’s original idea and direction to be honest. It’s still a fun suspense horror hybrid that goes totally wrong for almost every damn role in The Only Ones. It’s a chaotic situation for all of them and no one is really safe here which makes it more entertaining. I enjoyed it for what it was but I still feel somewhat ripped off a little from it’s amazing beginning because it’s nothing like that. I guess that’s the whole point, it gets you in a certain mood then it messes with everything right away. I respect and appreciate it’s ability to do whatever it wants but that’s so risky when it comes to cinema. Regardless, it’s very unique and it’s worth checking out for that exact reason. Don’t trust anyone is the main theme!!!! Let’s discuss the special features from DeskPop Entertainment! It’s unrated and uncensored so it doesn’t hold back on the violence and gore here. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director Jordan Miller and second unit director Raven Jackson. They are very honest about their personal stories and inside stories about the production. It’s more technical. They go into great detail about everything here. If you want to learn more about this low budget production, this is a must. It has an additional “Audio Commentary” with director Jordan Miller plus actors Emily Classen, Tatiana Nya Ford, and Tatiana Nya Ford. This is more laid back and fun compared to the first one. They joke around and they have fun checking this out again. They go scene by scene basically. They revisit The Only Ones and they share their honest opinions about everything from this. They discuss the cast, characters, story, and so much other material. Each track has it’s own vibe, you learn different things from them so it’s cool to have a few options while viewing it.
