The Last Stop in Yuma County is a 2023 independent crime film written, edited, produced, and directed by Francis Galluppi (Palm Drive, High Desert Hell, The Gemini Project, and Mt. Joy music videos) in his full length feature debut. It grossed $94,344 worldwide at the box office. At a remote desert location in Yuma County in the 1970s, the gas station that’s supervised by Vernon (played by: Faizon Love from Friday, Elf, Money Talks, The Players Club, Made, Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and The Replacements) is currently out of fuel. There was a bank robbery earlier that morning on a nearby town. A variety of different people which includes Travis (played by: Nicholas Logan from Dark Winds, Watchmen, and Creepshow), Beau (played by: Richard Brake from 31, The Mayor of Kingstown, Doom, Hannibal Rising, The Munsters, 3 From Hell, Mandy, and Batman Begins), Miles (played by: Ryan Masson from Boy and Proximity), Sybil (played by: Sierra McCormick from American Horror Story, VFW, and Curb Your Enthusiasm), Pete (played by: Jon Proudstar from Reservation Dogs and Wastelander), Robert (played by: Gene Jones from No Country For Old Men, The Hateful Eight, and The Sacrament), Earline (played by: Robin Bartlett from City of Angels, Shutter Island, Mad About You, and Inside Llewyn Davis), and a mysterious traveling knives sales man (played by: Jim Cummings from The Wolf of Snow Hollow and Halloween Kills) are stranded at the local diner ran by Charlotte (played by: Jocelin Donahue from House Of The Devil, Doctor Sleep, Insidious Chapter 2, and Holidays). The group starts getting angry as time goes by. Local sheriff Charlie (played by: Michael Abbott Jr. from Killers Of The Flower Moon, Organ Trail, Mud, and Daredevil) with receptionist Virginia (played by: Barbara Crampton from Re-Animator, From Beyond, You’re Next, Chopping Mall, We Are Still Here, Body Double, Castle Freak, and Beyond the Gates) sends deputy Gavin (played by: Connor Paolo from A Creature Was Stirring, Stake Land, Revenge, Gossip Girl, and World Trade Center) for coffee and to check out on the disastrous situation. The criminals get antsy and all hell breaks loose in the small restaurant. A young couple Sarah (played by: Alex Essoe from Starry Eyes, The Pope’s Exorcist, Midnight Mass, Tales Of Halloween, Doctor Sleep, and Passion Play) and David (played by: Sam Huntington from Detroit Rock City, Fanboys, and Not Another Teen Movie) show up during all the chaos. Sheriff Charlie and Deputy Gavin show up for the bloody aftermath of paranoia, tempers, and patient. This leads to a brutal showdown, who will survive it all???? The Last Stop in Yuma County is one of the better independent crime features in recent years. It has a Tarantino meets Coen brothers vibe to it. I really liked it’s isolated location. It had some excellent tension between all the trapped customers. As The Last Stop in Yuma County went on, everyone started to change a little bit. Francis Galluppi in his directorial debut really impressed with this one. The script kept you on your toes with every person that walks in during this awful and time consuming situation. It’s more of a character study at first but it rewards you for your patience towards the final act. Jim Cummings who I mainly know as a director is better than expected as the guy at the wrong place at the wrong time. His character is a little mysterious. He doesn’t even say his name here. Jocelin Donahue is stunning as waitress Charlotte who runs the diner that all these strangers are currently stuck at. Richard Brake is always a top notch villain and he’s no different here as Beau in The Last Stop in Yuma County. He’s the brains of the robbers. He’s very impatient with a bad temper. He’s really the reason why everything goes to hell in this. It has an amazing supporting cast with some familiar faces that includes Alex Essoe, Barbara Crampton, Faizon Love, Michael Abbott Jr., Gene Jones, Sam Huntington, Connor Paolo, Robin Bartlett, and others. This is one of higher quality castings for a lower budget smaller film and it honestly enhances the entire production. The Last Stop in Yuma County has solid suspense and so much violence towards the end. This might be the sleeper of 2023, it definitely deserves so much more attention and love than what it gets. You need to give this one a shot, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks very impressive especially for it’s lower budget. It has slick cinematography, excellent production design, and it uses the one main location with ease. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. Like I said before, it’s more character development for awhile but the audio really kicks in towards the end in this. It’s loaded with action for the finale. All of the dialogue is crisp, the chaos is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH and French subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director Francis Galluppi, lead actor Jim Cummings, lead actress Jocelin Donahue, producer James Claeys, and DP Mac Fisken. This is a nice mix of different personalities here. There’s a little bit of everything for this track. Lots of information and stories. They have lots of fun discussing this project. They have good chemistry together. It has a little over 8 minute “Making Of” feature. It has interviews with Francis Galluppi, Jocelin Donahue, Faizon Love, Nicholas Logan, Richard Brake, James Claeys, and others. They chat about putting together the movie. Producer James Claeys says he sold his house to finance this film. It shows the production running out of time trying to finish this. It’s a very honest and blunt inside look into low budget filmmaking. They make fun of each other during this. There’s all kinds of behind the scenes footage here. It has a “Trailer” for the film and a variety of Well Go USA “Trailers”. It comes with a slipcover. It’s available everywhere on July 16th, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
