The Last Showgirl Blu Ray Review (Lionsgate)

The Last Showgirl is a 2024 drama film produced and directed by Gia Coppola (Palo Alto, The Seven Faces of Jane, Mainstream, and Love Advent). It was executive produced and written by Kate Gersten (Mozart in the Jungle, The Good Place, and Lost Ollie). The budget was $1,800,000 and it grossed $6,928,430. Shelly (played by: Pamela Anderson from Baywatch, The Naked Gun, Barb Wire, V.I.P., Home Improvement, and Stacked) is a glamorous Vegas showgirl whose 30-year career at Le Razzle Dazzle. The last remaining revue is coming to an abrupt end. When the show’s closure in two weeks is announced from Eddie (played by: Dave Bautista from WWE, Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Riddick, Dune, Stuber, The Killer’s Game, and Spectre), she tries to reconnect with her estranged daughter Hannah (played by: Billie Lourd from Star Wars franchise, Booksmart, American Horror Story, and Scream Queens) while leaning on her brassy former-showgirl best friend Annette (played by: Jamie Lee Curtis from Halloween franchise, True Lies, The Bear, Trading Places, Prom Night, Terror Train, and A Fish Called Wanda)!!!! The Last Showgirl is Pamela Anderson’s moment to shine and prove all of her haters wrong after all these years. It’s directed by Gia Coppola who is no stranger to the world of cinema considering everyone that she’s related to. I wasn’t really familiar with her work until now but this is a nice first impression. The script showcases the glamorous lifestyle and the fall of being a showgirl. Lead actress Pamela Anderson gives her greatest performance in her entire career as Shelly. She is more than a pretty face, she flexes her dramatic talents here. She is almost done with her career out of nowhere without much warning. She’s sacrificed everything including a relationship with her own child. Now she’s a little lost and she’s trying to find herself again before it’s too late. She is an influence to her co-workers and she kinda acts like their mother while working together. She tries to make everything right after dealing with this shocking alteration. She shows herself without makeup and how she naturally looks now, it’s a brave portrayal especially for someone that’s been a sex symbol almost all of her life. The legendary Jamie Lee Curtis almost looks unrecognizable as the struggling Annette. Different color hair and her skin almost looks burnt here, she transforms herself into this character. She’s a former dancer that let age get the best of her so she had to find other options. She’s a reflection of what’s coming to Shelly sooner than later. She isn’t afraid to real and honest about what’s happening these days. She’s always there for her friend despite all of her own problems. Dave Bautista just keeps killing in everything that he does. He is great as the supportive Eddie. He has a complicated past with Shelly and a strong connection to her. He’s the one that has to let the girls know that it’s all over for them. Bautista is probably the best wrestler turned actor, he has the ability to be completely different for whatever the role calls for. The rest of the supporting cast includes Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Brenda Song (Changeland), Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men), Linda Montana (Parks and Recreation), John Clofine (Triumph), and Patrick Hilgart (Feud). The Last Showgirl goes behind the curtains for the highly populated and respected gig for a woman in the business. Las Vegas has always been kind to these women but it’s not the same type of world anymore. They have been replaced by a variety of different entertainment for their guests. It’s an emotional journey that isn’t predictable at all and it lands on some genuine surprises. The Last Showgirl is a fascinating mix of drama, comedy, relationships, and closure. I didn’t know what to expect with this but it was much better than I thought it would be. It’s honestly a more realistic but similar approach to what The Substance did when youth takes over age. Father time is always undefeated. It’s an interesting and entertaining experience that doesn’t back away from reality. It deserves more attention and praise, RECOMMENDED!!!! Las Vegas is basically one of the lead characters in The Last Showgirl. This highlights it’s bright lights, beautiful locations, and it’s unique personalities. The colorful cinematography really stands out here. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the disc. It’s all about the loud and energized soundtrack when it comes to the audio. All of the dialogue is crisp, the drama is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH and Spanish subtitles. It has the little over 20 minute “The Last Showgirl: Unreserved”. It has interviews with Gia Coppola, Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brenda Song, and Kiernan Shipka. They go over the concept and overall story. They chat about the main characters in this. They talk about their experiences and the shoot. It has the little over 30 minute “A Conversation with Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis”. This is after a screening of the film. Both actresses go into full detail with information and stories about the Las Vegas drama. It comes with a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now including Moviezyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
