The Killer’s Game 4K Review (Lionsgate)

The Killer’s Game is a 2024 crime action film directed by J.J. Perry (Day Shift and Afterburn). It was written by Rand Ravich (Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, Second Chance, Crisis, Life, and The Astronaut’s Wife) and James Coyne (Vikingdom, Puncture Wounds, and Kill Them All). It’s based on the novel from author Jay Bonansinga. It grossed $5,928,351 worldwide at the box office. Professional killer Joe Flood (played by: Dave Bautista from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise) is diagnosed with a terminal illness so he decides to take the fatal matters into his own hands. He takes a hit out on himself. His handler Zvi Rabinowitz (played by: Ben Kingsley from Iron Man 3) refuses but his rival Antoinette (played by: Pom Klementieff from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise) agrees to take his contract. When all the assassins which includes Max (played by: Daniel Bernhardt from John Wick), Creighton (played by: Terry Crews from Deadpool 2), Angus (played by: Scott Adkins from John Wick: Chapter 4), Rory (played by: Drew McIntyre from WWE), and El Botas (played by: Marko Zaror from John Wick: Chapter 4) that he hired begin to target his ex-girlfriend Maize (played by: Sofia Boutella from The Mummy), he is forced to defend her against these cold blooded murderers looking for an easy death and payout. He is trying to win back the love of his life before it’s too late!!!!! The Killer’s Game has an interesting concept and it’s something a little different for the hitman sub-genre. John Wick made assassin features so much popular and there’s been a good amount produced since that crime franchise blew up. Joe Flood is one of the best at his dangerous job but he rushes to fix his own problems after getting bad news. Then it all backfires on him and now he needs to make everything right. The script is loaded with action, dark humor, crime, and thrills. Joe Flood is the perfect role for action star and former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista. He sets a chain of crazy events when he puts a contract on himself. He desperately goes to the only person in his business willing to take his life which happens to be his enemy Antoinette played by his Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Pom Klementieff. The legendary Ben Kingsley is his boss and Sofia Boutella is his love interest. There’s so much talent plus plenty of familiar faces that are involved with The Killer’s Game, everyone killed it in this. The rest of the supporting cast includes Scott Adkins, Daniel Bernhardt, Marko Zaror, Terry Crews, Drew McIntyre, Alex Kingston (ER), Lucy Cork (Black Widow), Shaina West (Black Widow), George Somner (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), Raffaello Degruttola (Saving Private Ryan), and Dylan Moran (Shaun of the Dead). It’s packed with violence, kills, chaos, and bullets. The Killer’s Game is a suspenseful adrenaline rush, it stays entertaining and it’s so much fun for it’s entire running time. I’m really surprised this didn’t do better in theaters. It has the potential to be a cult hit later on, it has strong replay value to it. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Lionsgate! This 2160p (2.00:1) transfer with Dolby Vision and HDR10 looks amazing in 4K. It has slick cinematography, non stop violence, and wild action that shines here. It has English: Dolby Atmos, English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, and Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1 on the UHD. The audio is top notch for The Killer’s Game, this is the perfect type of film to test out your home set up. All of the dialogue is crisp, the madness is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH and Spanish subtitles. It has the little over 5 minute “Meet Joe Flood”. It has interviews with the cast and crew. They chat about the lead character here. They talk about some of his interactions in this. They show their appreciation for Dave Bautista. It has the little over 5 minute “The Conductor”. It has interviews with the crew and cast. This one is focused on director J.J. Perry. They bring up all his action experience. They go over their working relationship with him. He chats about doing 2nd unit direction with a variety of projects. It has some behind the scenes footage here. It has the little over 6 minute “World of Assassins”. They chat about all the wacky people, dangerous hitmen, psychopaths, and all the others after the main guy in this. They break down all the unique characters and what sets them apart from each other. It has the almost 7 minute “Killed It!”. They discuss the action, stunts, and violence for The Killer’s Game. It highlights the crew responsible for all of that chaos when it comes to behind the scenes. It has the “Theatrical Trailer” for The Killer’s Game. It comes with a slipcover, a digital code, and a blu ray copy of the release. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
