The Devil’s Trap Blu Ray Review (VMI)

The Devil’s Trap is a 2024 horror thriller executive produced, story, and directed by Alexander Nistratov (Demon Pit, No Tears in Hell, The Curse of the Clown Motel, Phoenix, The Man Who Drew God, and The Lurking Fear). It was written by Michael Caissie (Luke 11:17, Purgatory, Hunter’s Moon, Hangman, Z-Force, and Second Chances). It was executive produced by Michael Tadross Jr (Wrong Side of Town, Shark Lake, LBJ, The Last Heist, The Hurricane Heist, The Asian Connection, and Dead Trigger). Mr. Cohen (played by: Bruce Dern from The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, The Burbs, Django Unchained, Hang ‘Em High, The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, Last Man Standing, and Monster) watches his paralyzed roommate Billy (played by: Nick Davi from Big Life and Moment of Impact) suffer through several terrible nightmares while they are currently under care in a hospital. As suspicious events start happening, it’s hinted that a demonic presence is haunting the facility while others struggle to defend for themselves against this unknown evil force!!!! The Devil’s Trap grabbed my attention with it’s cast right away plus the concept sounded interesting. Producer Alexander Nistratov makes his debut behind the camera for this independent horror thriller. Hospital is always a quality setting for a suspense production like this. A patient is suffering unbearable visions and it’s like he’s being possessed. His unlucky roommate is stuck there to witness it all. This creates a mysterious and dark scenario in this isolated location. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the legendary Bruce Dern was the lead here as Mr. Cohen. I was expecting a small role or cameo but he drives this low budget demonic movie. He’s kinda the host of all of this chaos as the staff tries to figure out what’s really going on in this room. He isn’t shy about being rude and grumpy as he goes through this hell. Michael Paré (Eddie and the Cruisers franchise, Streets of Fire, The Greatest American Hero, The Philadelphia Experiment, Village of the Damned, and Bad Moon) shows up as Father Gestas, he’s the religious one brought in for an exorcism. Richard Grieco (21 Jump Street, A Night at the Roxbury, Booker, Mobsters, and If Looks Could Kill) looks unrecognizable as James in this. He was doing some character work for his smaller cameo here so it doesn’t even feel like the known television star. It shows that he’s still dedicated no matter how small the character or film is. The rest of the supporting cast includes Nick Davi, Elissa Dowling (We Are Still Here), Mike Mendez (Hatchet II), Cortney Palm (Zombeavers), Antoni Corone (Bad Boys II), Ira Grossman (House of Cards), Sofia Nistratova (Demon Pit), and Ilir Fiora (Joker). The Devil’s Trap is full of twists and surprises, you never know what’s going to happen here. The dreams and nightmarish visuals provide a solid build up to it’s madness. It has an uneasy and weird atmosphere to it. I didn’t check out a trailer or look into this before viewing it, I think it works better for something like The Devil’s Trap. This is one that needs to keep all of it’s mystery to fully develop. It turned out much better than I thought it would be. It’s suspenseful and entertaining with some replay value to it. The Devil’s Trap has good casting that really elevates this independent production more than it probably should. It’s currently streaming on Tubi if you are curious about it. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Vantage Media! This (2.40:1) transfer looks really good for it’s Blu Ray debut on home video. The sharp cinematography, creative production design, and attention grabbing special fx all stand out when it comes to the visuals. It has an English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc. The audio has it’s moments especially during the crazy nightmares and thrills. All of the dialogue is very clean, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
