The Death of Snow White is a 2025 horror film co-written, produced, edited, costume design, special fx, and directed by Jason Brooks (Friday the 13th Vengeance 2: Bloodlines, Selfie, Happy Trails, The Diner, and Missing Girl: The Carrie Burke Story). It was co-written, produced, costume supervisor, and special fx by Naomi Mechem-Miller (Die’ced: Reloaded, Kill Craft, Zombiegeddon, Friday the 13th Vengeance 2: Bloodlines, Winter Island, and Conjuring the Cult). It was produced by Kody Newton (Rise of the Crimson Butcher, Friday the 13th Vengeance 2: Bloodlines, Ninja Cowboy Viking vs. the GadgetGents, Door 7, and 2:59) and Eric Michael Kochmer (The Moonlight Murders, A Scream in the Dark, Plankenstein: A Killer Surf Movie, Way Down in Chinatown, and Killing All My Sisters). It had an estimated budget of $1,200,000 and it grossed $108,752 during it’s limited theatrical run. Pursued by her stepmother (played by: Chelsea Edmundson from The Iron Claw, American Gigolo, Army of the Dead, The Bunker, Howlers, and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches) for eternal beauty, Snow White (played by: Sanae Loutsis from The Parish, The Black String, Beloved Beast, Rose Blood: A Friday the 13th Fan Film, and Friday the 13th: Vengeance) flees into a terrifying forest and aligns with seven bloodthirsty dwarves – cold-blooded assassins with a knack for brutal killings. Her spirit is tested in this grim fairy tale!!!! The Death of Snow White takes the classic fairytale and turns it into a horror production. Snow White: A Tale of Terror did the same thing in 1997 and that one turned better than expected so I knew this independent feature had that same potential. Special fx artist and actor Jason Brooks (Die’ced: Reloaded, Jason Voorhees Nightmares, The Barn: Part II, Rose Blood: A Friday the 13th Fan Film, and Friday the 13th: Vengeance) is behind the camera for this ambitious darker reboot of the legendary story. I love the direction this one went and I honestly enjoyed it much more than the recent mainstream adaptations of it. Lead actress Sanae Loutsis really shines as Snow White. She’s dealt with plenty tragedy and she can’t escape her past. She wants to make a change in her community and it’s time to stand up to the evil queen to claim her birthright. Veteran actress Chelsea Edmundson is a quality villain as the infamous bad stepmother that’s greedy with power. She still feels threatened by Snow White and she wants to make sure the throne stays with her forever at any cost. The showdown between these two keep building up and the audience is ready to see what happens next. The Death of Snow White is gruesome, violent, chaotic, and full of gore. It had a decent body count to it that rivals any slasher. I wasn’t expecting it to be that graphic so that was a nice bonus and the special fx were very impressive here from Real Fiction Studios. I appreciated that it wasn’t afraid to include some nudity despite being a typically marketed to a younger crowd. So this is definitely aimed at adults and it’s a nice change compared to most of the previous versions. It has great visuals, production design, costumes, locations, and everything looks sharp for this low budget production. It actually looks much bigger than what it is. It has a good pace to it for the most part but I think it could have been around 10 minutes shorter for a smoother flow. The atmosphere feels an earlier Cannon Films project and I absolutely loved that. The Death of Snow White is highly entertaining, a total blast, and a completely different approach to any of the other Snow Whites out there. This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks excellent for being an independent feature on home video. Like I said above, it’s loaded with talent when it comes to the behind the scenes crew for The Death of Snow White and it really shows. It has a few audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. There’s plenty of violence, action, and madness that amps up the audio in this. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the brutality is elevated, and the music has a massive boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. The only extra is the “Official Trailer” for The Death of Snow White. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
