The Bunny Game Blu Ray Review (Jinga Films)

The Bunny Game is a 2011 horror film written, edited, composed, shot, and directed by Adam Rehmeier (Snack Shack, Jonas, and Dinner in America). It was produced, story, and costume design by lead actress Rodleen Getsic. It’s based on a real life experience and it was banned overseas. She’s struggling, she needs more money for alcohol and drugs to numb all of her pain. Los Angeles prostitute Bunny (played by: Rodleen Getsic from Nature, The Exquisite Tenderness of Santa Rosa de Lima, and Charlotta-TS) is looking for her next meal like always. She finds a potential new client that can help with all of that. She hitches a ride with a mysterious trucker Hog (played by: Jeff Renfro from Lure and Drawn Into the Night). She’s fighting for her life while being the entertainment of a deranged psychopath. This brutal experience leaves her praying for her next breath after being tortured non stop. Can she survive this living hell? or Is it the end???? The Bunny Game is like watching a real life snuff film. Director Adam Rehmeier doesn’t hold back when it comes to this independent horror production. Yes, everything that’s shot in this actually really happens except for the drug use which is wild. The script mainly focuses on two characters the entire time which is Bunny and Hog as they play a gruesome game. Rodleen Getsic gives a very brave and uncensored performance of a prostitute that picks the wrong customer and she pays for it right away. She’s just trying to get through life by any means necessary. Jeff Renfro as Hog is a nasty villain here. He’s a lonely truck driver that uses his traveling job to find his victims. He’s a vicious predator looking for weak prey. Bunny is the perfect next choice for his morbid entertainment. Renfro drives a truck as his legit job. He works in Hollywood and he actually does transportation for a variety of movies. The rest of the cast includes Drettie Page, Coriander Womack, Curtis Reynolds, Paul Ill, Gregg Gilmore (Dinner in America), Loki (Mayans M.C.), Jason Timms (Bloodletting), and Norwood Fisher (Tapeheads). The Bunny Game is not for the squeamish, it pushes all of the taboo buttons to the extreme. It reminds me of similar stuff from Unearthed Films. It’s unapologetic and it shows everything it can with ease no matter how disturbing it is. This has a weird fetish, exploitation, and pure violence narrative rather your typical plot based project. The director uses reality instead of special fx to make it’s viewer uncomfortable. This horror movie has an artsy look to it mixed with it’s dark S and M vibes. The Bunny Game’s main goal is to shock it’s audience and it achieves that with all it’s demented moments. I think it could have been trimmed down for at least 5 minutes to give itself a better flow and pace to it. It doesn’t really drag but it can take it’s time for some of the messed up scenarios. It’s definitely not for everyone but it should be experienced at least one time because it’s a unique low budget that makes you think twice about trusting a stranger!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Jinga Films! This 1080p (1.85:1) uncut and uncensored transfer looks excellent in HD. The black and white cinematography really shines with it’s wild production designs. It has an English: LPCM 2.0 track on the disc. The Bunny Game isn’t action packed or explosive but the audio stands out more during it’s torture situations. The soundtrack is probably the true highlight when it comes to that department. All of the dialogue is very clean, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English and French subtitles. It has the little over 16 minute “Caretaking the Monster”. It has various interviews with cast and crew. It’s a behind the scenes view into this crazy independent feature. They go over the origins of it. They chat about the real life experience that inspired this. They talk about the development of The Bunny Game. They wanted something that felt real rather than over the top gore. They go over changes made the last minute. It’s very detailed and an interesting conversation about this. It has both a “Teaser” and “Trailer” for The Bunny Game. It has 4 additional “Trailers” from Jinga Films. The Bunny Game has been rare, expensive, and out of print for a few years on home video until now thanks to Jinga Films.
