The Blade Cuts Deeper Blu Ray Review (Leomark Studios)

The Blade Cuts Deeper is a 2024 horror film co-written, produced, and directed by Gene Dolders (Death Is the Keeper of Secrets). It was co-written, composed, and produced by A J Ballard. It was produced by Guy Taylor (The Woods, The Bench, Putt, The Guest, and Road to Nowhere). John Abbott (played by: John Tueart from Nick, Victoria, Gold, Protection, This Town, One Day, Noir, Happy Valley, and The Bay) is the narcissistic host of the infamous real-crime show known as “Lights, Camera, Kill”. He’s all about exploitation with its lurid re-enactments of the darkest of trespasses when it comes to human nature. LCK has made him all kinds of money by displaying all of the pain and suffering from victims. Broken by his tragic loss, this grieving man has a burning thirst for nasty revenge and now he wants to make Abbott bleed for turning his torment into entertainment!!!! The Blade Cuts Deeper is a love letter to the giallo sub-genre and Dario Argento. It brings back from those classic elements and colorful cinematography from back in the day. I wasn’t expecting this from U.K .’s own Gene Dolders and he knew exactly what he was doing here. John Tueart as John Abbott reminds me of a sleazier version of Wayne Gale from Natural Born Killers. He’s beyond unlikable in this and he only cares about himself. From the beginning, the audience wants to see him get slaughtered. It’s a great performance that manages to make the villain look more like the hero than him when it’s all over. The rest of the supporting cast includes Vicki Avery (Death Is the Keeper of Secrets), Lindsay Bennett-Thompson (Greatest Days), Peter Durr (Our Eddy), Quentin J. Gray (The Violin Case), Kristin Jaap (Zombies of the Third Reich), Saul Murphy (Doctor Who), James Podmore (Gagged), Lucy Renton (Monkey or Man), and Jason Lamar Ricketts (Brassic). The Blade Cuts Deeper obviously doesn’t shy away from it’s gore and gruesome violence. The old school practical fx from artists Steve Bosworth (Clownface), Dean Garner (Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales), and Gary Hunt (Snarl) really elevated the nasty brutal atmosphere for this independent production. I was really impressed with the tension and build up to the unlikable television personality. The mysterious killer which paid homage and it was influenced by all of those older giallos from back in the day. This actually had some solid suspense and thrills before it’s wild finale. It has a nice twist from the start and it makes sense when it all comes together. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this low budget slasher but it really surprised me. It studied those past movies and it kept that vibe for the entire ride. The Blade Cuts Deeper keeps itself very entertaining, suspenseful, and lots of fun with all kinds of respect to all of the classics. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Leomark Studios! This 1080p (2.35:1) transfer looks way bigger than it’s actual budget. It’s colorful cinematography and sharp production design really pop out when it comes to visuals. It’s one of the better looking features from the independent scene. It has an English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc. The familiar and retro score takes the audience back to the 80’s when this sub-genre was dominating Italy. All of the dialogue is very clean, the tension is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has no special features on it. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
