Tarot Blu Ray Review (Sony)

Tarot is a 2024 horror film written/produced/directed by Spenser Cohen (Shattered and Blink) and Anna Halberg (Classified). It was produced by Andrew Pfeffer (The Toxic Avenger, The First Omen, Don’t Breathe 2, The Grudge franchise, The Entity, Santa’s Slay, and Running Scared). The budget was $8,250,000 and it grossed $48,972,217 worldwide at the box office. When a group of friends which includes Haley (played by: Harriet Slater from Pennyworth and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Grant (played by: Adain Bradley from Wrong Turn and The Bold and the Beautiful), Paxton (played by: Jacob Batalon from the Spider-Man franchise and Reginald the Vampire), Paige (played by: Avantika from Mean Girls and Senior Year), Madeline (played by: Humberly González from Utopia Falls and In The Dark), Lucas (played by: Wolfgang Novogratz from Assassination Nation and The Last Summer), and Elise (played by: Larsen Thompson from Bloodline and Pearl) recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings which is to never use someone else’s deck. They unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. They are forced to seek out an expert Alma (played by: Olwen Fouéré from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Mandy, The Watchers, The Northman, and Cult Killer) for help. Their mysterious situations keep getting worse and worse as they are ruining out of time. One by one, all of them must go face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their dangerous readings. Who will survive this gruesome curse???? I wasn’t expecting much from Tarot to be honest and it ended up really surprising me. It’s one of the better PG-13 horror movies in awhile. Tarot has a great concept and it’s something that really hasn’t been explored much in the sub-genre. The main cast is full of unknown actors which helps it out because you actually seen them as their real characters in this and there’s no distractions. Harriet Slater as Haley is the real stand out when it comes to the performances. Olwen Fouéré as Alma has an interesting role. She explains the history of the cards which makes the plot even more entertaining. The veteran character actress always brings something unique to projects. The rest of the cast includes Adain Bradley, Larsen Thompson, Jacob Batalon, Avantika, Humberly González, Wolfgang Novogratz, Suncica Milanovic, Alan Wells, Cavin Cornwall, Joss Carter, Felix Leech, and James Swanton. The Astrologer has potential to be a future horror icon if they end up making more of these in the future. The visual fx were top notch and it really elevates everything. Tarot kinda reminded me a little of Final Destination. I just wish it would have been Rated R like that horror franchise. I thought all of the deaths were decent for it’s PG-13 rating but they could have been so much better if they weren’t watered down. I think that’s one of the main reasons this got all those mixed reactions during it’s original release. If Tarot was gorier, I think it had the potential to be in the top 10 for the year. Besides that, I still think it’s highly entertaining and so much fun. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Sony Pictures! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer is one of the better looking horror blu rays of the year so far. Tarot is a creative visual experience and it shines in HD. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, French: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Spanish: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 on the disc. The audio is a real nice one for your home set up. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the chaos is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has the little over 6 minute “A Twist of Fate: Making the Film”. It has interviews with the cast and crew. The directors chat about starting out in Screen Gems and doing a short movie that got them this gig. They talk about the concept and story for Tarot. The cast brings up going overseas in film this. They mention their favorite character from the horror film. It has the almost 7 minute “Circle of Friends”. It has interviews with the crew and the cast for the production. They chat about their characters and the group for Tarot. They talk about their chemistry and working together. It breaks down what cards they ended up, important scenes, and what they all brought to the table. It has some behind the scenes footage here. It has a little over 2 minutes of “Killer Outtakes”. It shows the cast messing up and goofing around on the set. It comes with a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
