Talk To Me 4K Review (Second Sight)
Talk to Me is a 2022 supernatural horror film written/produced/directed by Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou (Bring Her Back and Talk 2 Me). It was produced by Kristina Ceyton (Bring Her Back, Went Up the Hill, The Moogai, Blaze, You Won’t Be Alone, The Babadook, The Nightingale, and He Ain’t Heavy). The sequel Talk 2 Me is currently in development. The budget was $4,500,000 and it grossed $91,959,188 worldwide at the box office!!!!!
A group of highschool friends which includes Mia (played by: Sophie Wilde from Bring Her Back, Babygirl, Tom Jones, Eden, and Everything Now), Daniel (played by: Otis Dhanji from Underbelly, Aquaman, The Unlisted, and On the Ropes), Hayley (played by: Zoe Terakes from Ironheart, Wentworth, Janet King, The Office, and Nine Perfect Strangers), Chris (played by: Chris Alosio from Fighting Season, Next Goal Wins, Moni, and Surviving Summer), Jade (played by: Alexandra Jensen from The Moogai, The Messenger, Beat, and Frayed), and her little brother Riley (played by: Joe Bird from First Day, Treasure, and Rabbit) discover a mysterious embalmed hand with the ability to connect them to the spirit world, they all become hooked right away on the risky experience, until one of them breaks the forbidden rules and unleashes it’s terrifying supernatural forces!!!!
Australian horror film Talk to Me blew up in 2022 from directing duo Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. It was distributed by A24 in the states and it just kept killing it in theaters due to word of mouth for it’s original theatrical release. Talk to Me had a very interesting concept so it instantly grabbed my attention. I’ve seen it during it’s first run and it’s Blu Ray debut here plus now for this brand new 4K home video UHD from Second Sight. This supernatural movie just keeps getting better during every revisit. I appreciate that it goes with the old school approach of a strong opening that shows the past of the mysterious dangerous hand. It’s a nice build up to what’s to come. Sophie Wilde as Mia is impressive as the lead in this. She has a troubled past and she’s basically embraced by her best friend’s family over it. She has to deal with her own personal hell as subplots and twists enter her already damaged life. Alexandra Jensen is Jade, the best friend of Mia that has her own distractions which doesn’t help the situation that happens when they all take this game way too far. Joe Bird as Riley is just at the wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately. He’s great as the curious kid that goes into unknown game without hesitation. The rest of the supporting cast includes Otis Dhanji, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio, Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings franchise), Marcus Johnson (The Condemned), Ari McCarthy (Deadlock), Sarah Brokensha (Wolf Creek), Sunny Johnson (100% Pure Rage), Alexandria Steffensen (Eden), and Cass Cumerford (Mad Max: Fury Road). This is strong tale what peer pressure can backfire. They enjoy filming all of their unique experiences and reactions during this crazy game but it quickly turns into something else when they bend the rules. It has some nice suspense and tension during these private parties where this group tests the supernatural and unknown for their own entertainment. It has good structure which includes a killer opening, built up thrills/characters, and it’s over the top finale. I’m excited about it’s upcoming sequel Talk 2 Me and I’m interested to see what they do with it’s follow up since it’s been a few years. This is currently streaming on both Paramount Plus and Netflix if you are curious about it. It was one of the best horror features in 2023, RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Second Sight Films! This 2160p (2.40:1) transfer with Dolby Vision and HDR10. Talk to Me looks excellent for this overseas UHD. This supernatural feature has some sharp and nightmarish visuals. The U.S. home video release had some different audio options which included English: Dolby Atmos and English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1. This 4K from Second Sight only has the English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track for this. I’m not sure what happened here because superior audio does exist for Talk to Me but it’s still real solid especially during it’s more wild moments. All of the dialogue is crisp, the thrills are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has a brand new exclusive “Audio Commentary” with Emma Westwood and Sally Christie. They chat about the film and they both provide plenty of information about the horror production. This isn’t scene by scene so it’s different and a little refreshing compared to most typical tracks. It has an additional “Audio Commentary” with directors Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. They were already known for their social media stuff before this was made so if you are familiar with their previous material then you know what to expect here. They are hilarious together. They drop all kinds of detailed information and great stories about Talk to Me in this. I really dig that both commentaries are total opposites of each other which is a nice change up if you want to revisit this multiple times. It has the brand new exclusive 52 minute “Talk to Them”. It’s an interview with Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. They are very excited to revisit their horror film here. They are both very different from each other so it’s a nice combination that covers a little bit of everything. This is a high quality a very entertaining addition to this home video release. It has the brand new exclusive 19 minute “Conjuring Demons”. It’s an interview with producer Samantha Jennings. She shares her experiences on Talk to Me and she chats about the creative team behind it. You get to hear from me production side of this supernatural thriller and it’s a nice companion piece to the previous one. It’s an alternate look into the behind the scenes for Talk to Me. It has the brand new exclusive 25 minute “Beautifully Grotesque”. It’s an interview with: a new interview with cinematographer Aaron McLisky. The man behind the visual style for this joins the conversation. He talks about his choices for the overall appearance of it. He shows his appreciation for the crew that worked on it. He even dives into the script and concept for the movie. He shares how it was working on Talk to Me during covid and some of the issues dealing with it. It has the newer 16 minute “Contagion: Kat Ellinger on Talk to Me”. She shares her personal thoughts, honest opinions, and she completely breaks down this supernatural horror. It has several archive extras such as the 8 minute “Behind the Scenes of Talk to Me”, the 8 minute “Behind the Scenes – No Spoilers”, 6 different “Deleted Scenes” that ends up being 6 minutes, 22 minutes of “Cast Interviews”, and 15 minutes of “Crew Interviews”. This is the standard version that just has the UHD. The biggest drawl here is all the new exclusive special features from Second Sight. This is definitely an upgrade compared to the previous 4K from Altitude in England. There’s also a limited edition with a exclusive Rigid slipcase with new artwork, 120 page book, 6 art cards, and it blu ray copy. It’s available everywhere in the U.K. plus select spots in the states, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
