Subservience Blu Ray Review (Decal Releasing)

Subservience is a 2024 science fiction horror film directed by S K. Dale (Till Death, Tommy, and The Coatmaker). It was written by Will Honley (The Hive, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, Blood, and Bloodline) and April Maguire (#Zombie and Dare). It was produced by Boaz Davidson (Delta Force 3, Bridge of Dragons, Replicant, Rambo franchise, Till Death, Leatherface, Day of the Dead: Bloodline, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, The Expendables franchise, Fallen franchise, The Mechanic 1/2, Ninja 1/2, and Conan the Barbarian) and Avi Lerner (The Expendables, Hellboy franchise, The Hitman’s Bodyguard franchise, Fallen franchise, The Mechanic franchise, Rambo: Last Blood, and Day of the Dead franchise). It only grossed $228,505 during it’s limited theatrical run. A desperate father Nick (played by: Michele Morrone from 365 Days franchise, The Trial, and Duetto) purchases a domestic SIM named Alice (played by: Megan Fox from Jennifer’s Body, Transformers franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, The Expendables 4, Till Death, This is 40, Passion Play, New Girl, and Jonah Hex) to help take care of his additional house duties plus make his family life easier when his wife Maggie (played by: Madeline Zima from Doom Patrol, Californication, The Nanny, Insight, Twin Peaks, Heroes, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and The Collector) gets sick. As time goes on, Alice starts to change and she gets control of her own actions. She takes advantage of Nick and she wants Maggie’s spot in the family as she gets more invested. Is it too late to fix this dangerous situation???? Subservience flew under the radar during it’s release this year. It had a small theatrical run and honestly no one has really talked about it. I’m always down for a new killer robot feature when it comes to horror. Subservience had an interesting script with a nice build up. It’s kinda a slow burn that depends on it’s character development. It sets everything up for a thrilling finale, a struggling husband and father is dealing with a tragedy. His wife almost dies and she goes through a major surgery to save her life. Nick is stuck alone with two kids and a full time supervisor job so he needs some assistance. Alice is hand picked from a variety of different robots. It takes a little for her to get adjusted to their family routines but she makes Nick’s daily problems go away. He is lonely and Alice takes advantage of the situation which starts this whole fatal attraction. Michele Morrone as Nick is decent as the lead. Megan Fox as Alice gives one of her best performances in her entire career. This role is perfect for the beautiful actress. She’s manipulative and she works her way into anything that she wants. Fox is top notch eye candy as always, she teases her body here. Madeline Zima as Maggie is very underrated. She comes back from a major change to see that her home life is completely different now. She’s fighting for her family as this stranger is trying to take her place. Zima has never been shy and she isn’t in this either. She looks amazing and she doesn’t seem worried about her fierce competition. The rest of the supporting cast includes Matilda Firth (Wolf Man), Andrew Whipp (Outlander), Atanas Srebrev (Hellboy), Manal El-Feitury (Hellboy), Antoni Davidov (The Princess), JR Esposito (Barbarian), Kate Nichols (Barbarian), and Kexin Wang (The Toxic Avenger). Subservience really dives into it’s suspense during it’s 2nd half. Alice is a quality villain with some legit reasons on why she does what she does in this. No one is safe in Nick’s world once Alice puts her psychotic mind to it. It has it’s darker moments for the end. Subservience provides some violence and nudity, it really becomes itself when all hell breaks loose. It’s always awesome when film makers these days risk it on a smaller movie and go with an R rating regardless. This was much better than expected. It was very entertaining and so much fun with a unique style to it. It has some great replay value to it already. It’s definitely one of the most underrated features of the year, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Decal Releasing! This 1080p (2.35:1) transfer looks amazing for it’s blu ray debut on home video. This has stylish cinematography, stunning production design, and a great future atmosphere. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the disc. The audio is fantastic for this sci-fi horror hybrid. All of the dialogue is crisp, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on this home video release. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!
