Stowaway Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

Stowaway is a 2022 action thriller edited and directed by music video veteran Declan Whitebloom (Prophets of Science Fiction). It was written by Ian Hayden. It was produced by Jib Polhemus (The Mechanic, The Expendables 2, Wild Card, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Stolen, Old Guy, Boundless, The Last Son, and Gun Shy). It grossed $30,556 during it’s limited theatrical run. Bella Denton (played by: Ruby Rose from John Wick: Chapter 2, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, The Doorman, Batwoman, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, The Meg, and Orange is the New Black) inherites her father’s yacht after he passes away. His old friend Meeser (played by: Frank Grillo from Superman, The Purge franchise, Peacemaker, Captain America franchise, Prison Break, Tulsa King, and Werewolves) shows up to help her out with this major addition to her life but she has a few rules to follow before she can claim it. She decides to sneak on to her new property before it’s all official but unfortunately mercenaries have already took it over looking for a big payoff. Can she survive the night???? Stowaway is basically like Die Hard on a yacht. Music video director Declan Whitebloom makes his full length feature debut here. I think it’s around 14 minutes too long because it really drags at times and it doesn’t have a great flow to it at all. There’s honestly a good amount of filler in between all of the action here so you have to be very patient with this. I’m not saying it’s boring or anything but it takes awhile to get somewhere. Ruby Rose is decent as Bella Denton. She hasn’t been involved in dad’s life for a long time and she gets brought back into his world again after getting his expensive boat after he dies. She’s been doing lots of action projects lately so she’s used to doing all of these independent features at this point and it shows in Stowaway. She knows exactly what type of movie that they are making right here. Frank Grillo as Meeser has a smaller role than expected but it’s very important to the complicated plot. He is an associate of Bella’s father and he wants to make sure she gets everything set up for her inheritance. This is one of the most interesting roles for the action star in a little bit and his presence always elevates whatever he works on. The rest of the supporting cast includes Patrick Schwarzenegger (Gen V), Luis Da Silva Jr. (The Fast and The Furious franchise), Major Dodge (Terror Lake Drive), Scotty Bohnen (Murder at Yellowstone City), Danny Bohnen (The Last Son), and Michelle Malentina (Girl with a Gun). Stowaway makes up for it’s awkward pace towards the last 20 minutes for it’s explosive finish. I just wish more of it was like this. Stowaway has potential to be so much better but it’s doesn’t deliver with several missed opportunities. I understand that it’s due to it’s lower budget and it tries spacing out all it’s dangerous scenarios but it’s just not very consistent. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still solid but don’t expect a non stop adrenaline rush because it’s different than that. Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer is better than expected for the independent action production and it really uses it’s main yacht location when it comes to the visuals. It has a few different audio options which includes has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. The audio delivers on it’s more explosive scenes in this. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. The only extras on this home video release is a “Trailer” for Stowaway & various Well Go USA related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!
