High school student Courtney Whitmore (played by: by Brec Bassinger from 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, School of Rock, & All Night) discovers the cosmic staff from her step-dad Pat Dugan’s (played by: Luke Wilson from Old School, Zombieland: Double Tap, The Goldfinch, & Idiocracy) past. They hide all this from Courtney’s mom Barbara (played by: Amy Smart from Crank 1/2, Road Trip, Just Friends, & The Butterfly Effect) & Pat’s son Mike (played by: Trae Romano from Robbie & Little Ghosts). She becomes Stargirl, the inspiration for a new generation of superheroes who become the Justice Society of America after she recruits all of them. The new JSA includes Yolanda Montez as Wildcat (played by: Yvette Monreal from Rambo: Last Blood, Matador, & Once Upon a Superhero), Beth Chapel as Dr. Mid-Nite (played by: Anjelika Washington from Shameless, Young Sheldon, & Max and Me) with the help of Chuck (played by: Henry Thomas from E.T., Suicide Kings, The Haunting of Hill House, & Doctor Sleep), & Rick Tyler as Hourman (played by: Cameron Gellman from Heathers, Charlie Says, & Let the Right One In) with the return of Pat Dugan as S.T.R.I.P.E.!

Can they save Blue Valley????

Stargirl really surprised me, it’s the best new DC Comics show in awhile & it’s way better than Batwoman. Brec Bassinger really shines as the lead here. Stargirl is a nice mix of superhero & high school makes it different from most of the other DC Comics shows out right now. It has some solid comedy mixed in there also. Her entire team is very unique & they all have their own special abilities. I enjoyed how they gave you little hints, winks, & information about the original Justice Society of America plus the Seven Soldiers of Victory. It has more than a few familiar faces/voices which includes Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Henry Thomas, & Joel McHale. They are all great in their supporting or guest roles here, they boost the overall quality of the show.

This series actually has some awesome villains that are almost never used when it comes to the DC Universe. The Injustice Society of America has some interesting bad guys in the group especially Icicle, Brainwave, & Solomon Grundy. I love the Solomon Grundy character, I geeked out when he showed up here. Stargirl honestly has a little bit of everything on it, it’s something everyone can enjoy. The fx, action, & fight scenes were top notch. I can’t wait for the next season & it’s cool that it will get a bigger audience now from The CW which means more interactions with all the other DC Comics favorites from that network. This home video release has no extras on it. It does include a slipbox, a digital code, & an episode listing. This definitely needs added to your DC Comics collection ASAP. It’s available everywhere right now, check it out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
