Seedpeople Blu Ray Review (Full Moon Features)

Seedpeople is a 1992 sci-fi horror film directed by Peter Manoogian (The Dungeonmaster, Eliminators, Arena, Enemy Territory, and Demonic Toys). It was written by Jack Canson (Trancers II, Subspecies, Body Chemistry franchise, Bad Channels, Robot Wars, Mandroid, and Invisible: The Chronicles of Benjamin Knight). It was produced by the legendary Charles Band (The Puppet Master franchise, Trancers franchise, Subspecies franchise, Evil Bong franchise, Demonic Toys franchise, Ghoulies franchise, Troll franchise, The Resonator, Pet Shop, Robot Wars, Tourist Trap, Laserblast, Beach Babes from Beyond, Castle Freak, Blood Dolls, The Creeps, Hideous!, Head of the Family, Oblivion franchise, Dollman, Doctor Mordrid, Intruder, Prison, Sorority Babes in the Slimebowl-O-Rama, Creepozoids, From Beyond, and TerrorVision). A sequel was originally planned but they went through with it. Welcome to the sleepy little town of Comet Valley, where nothing much exciting ever happens. That is, until the town is invaded by sentient plants from outer space! Intent on taking over the Earth, this fearsome foliage has found a diabolical way to pollinate humans, turning them into walking, talking and killing “Seedpeople”! Can Comet Valley’s resourceful residents lead by expert Tom Baines (played by: Sam Hennings from Drop Zone, Night Angel, The Aviator, Mission Manila, Private War, and Memphis Beat) plus Heidi Tucker (played by: Andrea Roth from Cloak & Dagger, Rescue Me, War, The Collector, Rogue, and The Psychic), Deputy Brad Yates (played by: Dane Witherspoon from Santa Barbara and Chameleons), Doc Roller (played by: Bernard Kates from The Phantom, The Babe, and Judgement at Nuremberg), Kim Tucker (played by: Holly Fields from Wishmaster 2, Interceptor Force, and The O.C.), and Burt Mosley (played by: Sonny Carl Davis from the Evil Bong franchise, TerrorVision, Trancers II, and Bad Channels) fight off the alien invaders, or is the planet doomed to become a savage garden of alien evil???? Seedpeople is a low budget mix between Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Critters. This is one of better productions from Full Moon Features in the 90’s. It’s when they had their partnership with Paramount Pictures and they were at their creative best during that collaboration. Sam Hennings is solid here as the expert no one really believes when strange things start happening in town. He stays at bed and breakfast ran by his ex Heidi. Andrea Roth has great chemistry with him and she’s the highlight when it comes to this independent feature. She’s probably the most known performer in Seedpeople also. It has a decent unknown cast that includes Full Moon Features favorite Sonny Carl Davis. The quality script really enhances everyone in this plus it has some solid twists. Seedpeople has some decent suspense, you can’t really trust anyone here. The old school practical fx from John Carl Buechler (A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Halloween franchise, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, From Beyond, and Bride of Re-Animator) are way better than expected plus it actually has a decent amount of gore in it. This one holds up better than most from this time so it actually has some respectful replay value. Seedpeople is very fun and highly entertaining, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Full Moon Features! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer has been remastered from it’s original negative. It’s a big improvement from the older DVD and VHS home video releases. This is absolutely the highest quality version of Seedpeople, it’s never looked this good. It has a few different audio options which includes English: Dolby Digital 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on this region free disc. All of the dialogue is crisp, the chaos is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the almost 10 minute “Videozone”. It has some excellent behind the scenes footage from Seedpeople in this. It has interviews with the cast and crew from the low budget film. They chat about the project. They make comparisons to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. They bring up the creatures and it focuses on the special fx. It has a variety of Full Moon Features “Trailers’.
