Screamboat Blu Ray Review (DeskPop Entertainment)

Screamboat is a 2025 slasher film co-written, produced, and directed by Steven LaMorte (The Mean One, Never Leave Alive, Nightwatch, and Bury Me Twice). It was co-written by Matthew Garcia-Dunn (Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Silent Hill: Ascension). It was produced by Steven Della Salla (Terrifier franchise, Stream, Pennywise: The Story of IT, The Wicked One, and Monster Killers) and Michael Leavy (Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, Terrifier franchise, Phantom Fun-World, Fear Clinic, and Penance Lane). It’s based on the iconic character Steamboat Willie aKa Mickey Mouse that recently went public domain. It grossed $393,011 worldwide at the box office during it’s limited theatrical run!!!! A late-night boat ride quickly turns into a desperate gruesome fight for their own survival in New York City when a mischievous mouse known as Steamboat Willie (played by: David Howard Thornton from the Terrifier franchise, Nightwing: Escalation, The Dark Offerings, Fanatic, Stream franchise, and The Mean One) becomes a monstrous reality. Can this unlucky group escape this killer creature with a blood thirsty taste for tourists???? David Howard Thornton is trying to be the next horror icon for the modern audience. The Terrifier films are one of the most popular franchises in the genre right now. Everyone knows about Art the Clown. Thornton played a evil version of The Grinch in Steven LaMorte’s previous production The Mean One so yeah he’s building up a solid resume early on during his career. The script mixes a good balance of slasher and dark comedy when it comes to Screamboat. David Howard Thornton steals the show as the villain Screamboat Willie. He proves that he can transform into any unique role at this point. He kinda has a Leprechaun vibe to him because Screamboat is a much smaller monster. The special fx crew did an excellent job on his creepy appearance for this independent slasher. The rest of the supporting cast includes Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Kailey Hyman (Terrifier franchise), Brian Quinn (Impractical Jokers), Amy Schumacher (The Mean One), Joe DeRosa (Better Call Saul), Anthony E. Williams (Straw), Jesse Kove (Cobra Kai), Tommy Bechtold (Bloodsucking Bastards), Sarah Kopkin (It’s Just a Game), Jesse Posey (Teen Wolf: The Movie), Allison Pittel (Stream), Jared Johnston (Power Book II: Ghost), Charles Edwin Powell (Stream), Allyson Sereboff (Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead), and Brian Scolaro (The Alto Knights). Screamboat is the best Mickey Mouse related horror feature so far when compared to it’s current competition. It really delivers when it comes to all the gore and it’s brutal kills. They don’t hold back on the violence. The special fx team lead by artist Cody J. Wilkins (Tragedy Girls, American Horror Story, Halloween franchise, Nightmare Cinema, Star Trek: Picard, and Fear Clinic) are probably the most impressive thing about this low budget feature. Screamboat is loaded with plenty of vicious and nasty deaths that any horror fan will love. It never takes itself seriously, Screamboat knows exactly what type of movie it is. It’s over the top and visually provides some wild scenarios. I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this Mickey Mouse horror project but it really surprised me on they executed everything. I actually enjoyed The Mean One but this was so much better, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss the high definition presentation from DeskPop Entertainment! This 1080p (2.39:1) unrated transfer looks solid in HD considering it’s a low budget production. The practical fx really stand out here. The gore, main villain, and creative deaths shine here. It has English 5.1 Surround Sound on the disc. The dialogue is crisp, the murder spree is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. This is a BD-R home video release so it’s professionally burned but not a pressed disc if you were curious. It’s available everywhere online right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
