It’s a continuation of the 1985 animated series The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. It was written by Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen, Justice League Action, Lego DC Super Hero Girls, & Scooby-Doo! and the Gourmet Ghost). A prologue set before The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo depicts a young Vincent Van Ghoul (played by: Maurice LaMarche from The Simpsons, Futurama, Transformers: Rescue Bots, & Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated) & his partner Mortifer (played by: Nolan North from Young Justice, Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy, Black Panther TV Series, & Guardians of the Galaxy TV Series) hunting down the final ghost into the Chest of Demons. Mortifer is attacked & seemingly killed by minion ghosts as a tearful Vincent makes his escape. Scooby-Doo (played by: Frank Welker from Scooby-Doo franchise, Transformers franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy TV series, The Jetsons, & The Smurfs) would eventually accidentally reopen the chest but would catch all but one with the help of his friends Daphne (played by: Grey Griffin from Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, Avengers Assemble, DC Super Hero Girls, & Bumblebee) & Shaggy (played by: Matthew Lillard from the Scooby-Doo! franchise, Scream, Thir13en Ghosts, & SLC Punk!). Mystery Inc. is forced to retire from solving mysteries after catching a teenage fearing Farmer Morgan (played by: Nolan North from Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Transformers Prime, & Mad) & due to the ungrateful sheriff telling them they could be arrested for harassment.
They start selling items from their old adventures & the Mystery Machine. This leaves Fred (played by: Frank Welker from Gremlins 1/2, Munchies, G.I. They find a crystal ball that they used for their ghost recapturing days after refusing to sell it to Bernie Alan (played by: Maurice LaMarche from The Looney Tunes Show, The Critic, Ultimate Spider-Man, & Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Van Ghoul contacts the gang about the final ghost. Velma (played by: Kate Micucci from The Big Bang Theory, Scrubs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, & Scooby-Doo & Batman: The Brave and the Bold) is very skeptical about it but she decides to join them on it. They the “the Misstery Machine” for their new journey. Daphne takes control of the mission & it leaves Fred feeling lost. Van Ghoul & Mystery Inc.end up discovering a huge surprise & must face their past now, Can they survive that & the haunted horror coming at them????
It’s been 34 years in the making, fans have been waiting for The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo series to have a proper ending for it seems like forever now & it’s finally here! My only regret is I wish they would have done it sooner so Horror Icon Vincent Price could have finished it as Vincent Van Ghoul. All the familiar voice talents from recent years are back for this original film & they all have great chemistry here.13 Ghosts was always a little darker than your typical Scooby-Doo adventure so that vibe is definitely appreciated in this. As always with the franchise, it has a nice balance of comedy added to the mix. After all that wait & anticipation, I was not disappointed with the end result. This was very fun & entertaining, the animation really brought you back to the old series. It had a nice twist & it kept you on your toes, RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s discuss the special features from Warner Bros on this DVD! It has two vintage Scooby-Doo cartoons. They are both from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo series (which is also available on DVD right now!). The first episode from 13 Ghosts was “To All the Ghouls I’ve Loved Before”. The last episode from 13 Ghosts was “Horror-Scope Scoob”. Both of these instantly bring me back to my childhood! I loved this series, it’s one of my all time favorites from the Scooby-Doo franchise. It’s just amazing to be able to add these to my Vincent Price collection, I love his performance for 13 Ghosts. These cool extras & if you are not familiar with the original material it will help bring you up to speed with this new release. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
