River Of Blood Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

River of Blood is a 2024 horror film produced and directed by Howard J. Ford (Mainline Run, Distant Shadow, The Ledge, Never Let Go, DarkGame, and The Dead franchise). It’s produced and written by Tom Boyle (Nature Unleashed: Volcano, The Ledge, and Zip Wire). It was produced by Rikke Ennis (Gösta, Trom, Boys, The Pushover, Viking Wolf, Fatal Crossing, and Outlier). It grossed $15,029 during it’s limited theatrical run. On a isolated jungle getaway, Nick (played by: Joseph Millson from Casino Royale, Angel Has Fallen, The Amateur, and Moon Knight), Jasmine (played by: Sarah Alexandra Marks from Witch, Kill Kane, Help, West End Murders, and Punch), Ajay (played by: Louis James from The Midnight Hour, Vipers, H.P. Lovecraft’s Monster Portal, and Escape), and Maya (played by: Ella Starbuck from Crocodile Swarm, Dinosaur Prison, The Killing Tree, and Conjuring the Genie 2) decides to hire a rogue guide Ritchie (played by: David Wayman from London Stories, Art of Darkness, After Death, and Angry Nazi Zombies) for a remote river tour. They go too deep into danger and they vanish into sacred land where a cannibal tribe hunts trespassers. As friendships fracture when bodies fall, their paradise becomes a blood-soaked nightmare to survive. Who will make it out alive???? River of Blood brings back the forgotten Cannibal horror sub-genre. I haven’t really seen that many made since Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno in 2013 so this was a nice surprise when it was originally announced. It was directed by low budget veteran Howard J. Ford that’s done some interesting projects over the years including The Dead franchise. The script knows exactly what it’s doing here with the main characters. It makes them all unlikable so the audience is actually rooting for their demise because none of them are good people in this group. Joseph Millson has been in some major productions over the years so he might be a familiar face to some. He’s bragging that he paid for this trip and he always trying to make his friend feel bad about it with his remarks. You can’t really feel bad for Louis James as Ajay because he’s banging Nick’s partner behind his back. So both of these guys are begging for you to hate them before it’s over. Both Sarah Alexandra Marks as Jasmine and Ella Starbuck as Maya provide some quality eye candy to this trip from hell. The rest of the supporting cast includes David Wayman, Tiffany Hannam-Daniels (Escape), Einar Haraldsson (Die Alone), and Price Lindsey (Sacrifice). I do like the fact that they casted unknowns or first time actors as all of the cannibals. They felt more natural and organic that way. I loved the look of these savages here. It reminded me of the ones from back in the day. River of Blood has the cannibal elements and influences all over but it kinda feels more like a survival slasher to me. It has excellent tension and suspense especially later on. The special fx, gore, and kills were very impressive by artist Chelsea Murphy (H.P. Lovecraft’s Monster Portal, Croc!, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, The Curse of Humpty Dumpty, and Cupid). The ending is interesting, you either love it or hate it. River of Blood was much better than expected despite not being a full blown cannibal feature. It’s definitely worth checking out sometime, I think it’s flew under the radar so far. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer actually looks great and you wouldn’t really think this was such a low budget production. It has stylish cinematography, exotic production design, and beautiful locations that really shines when it comes to the visuals. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. The audio is highlighted during it’s suspense and gruesome moments. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the thrills are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the “Trailer” for River of Blood and a variety of Well Go USA related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
