Resurrection Road Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

Resurrection Road is a 2025 western horror hybrid written and directed by Ashley Cahill (Random Acts of Violence and First Person: A Film About Love). It was produced by actor Randy Wayne (Open House, 96 Minutes, Altitude, The Clapper, Model House, Death Pool, 1 Mile to You, and SAF3). An elite squad of six dangerous soldiers led by ex-slave Barabbas (played by: Malcolm Goodwin from Reacher, iZombie, American Gangster, Run All Night, Miracle at St. Anna, and Breakout Kings) have been sent on a suicide mission. They must infiltrate a Confederate fort deep in the Arkansas woods and blow up its long-range guns to stop their power when it comes to the war!!!! Resurrection Road is kinda like Django Unchained meets Suicide Squad with a dose of From Dusk Till Dawn thrown in for good measure. Ashley Cahill is behind the camera and he wrote for the script for this action horror combination. These unlikely heroes are basically forced to carry out a mission that almost guarantees a future death rather than just being killed on the spot. It’s not a good situation either way but that’s to their best option to survive. Television veteran Malcolm Goodwin is the lead in Resurrection Road as Barabbas. He’s always been consistent in everything that he does and this one is no different. He sets the foundation for this independent feature. It’s a strong character that doesn’t want to die. He has to do whatever it takes to stay alive. He is haunted by Quantrill played by the talented Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, The Doors, Wyatt Earp, The Getaway, Donnie Brasco, and The Hateful Eight) in his last released role before his unfortunate passing. He still has around 15 other projects in the works so it’s not his last cinematic appearance but I think it might end up being his final quality role and performance for his impressive career. He is one of the best at being a bad guy and he shines as the sadistic villain in this. It’s a smaller role but it’s the reason to give this a shot. Character actor Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Munsters, Halloween II, 31, 3 from Hell, The Gifted, and Dexter: Original Sin) shows up as General Craven. He sends these unfortunate men on a gruesome journey that doesn’t guarantee a happy ending after it’s all said and done. The rest of the supporting cast includes Ronnie Gene Blevins (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), Randy Wayne (Hellraiser: Judgment), Okea Eme-Akwari (The Walking Dead), Randall J. Bacon (Venom), Furly Mac (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Bryan Taronn Jones (Everything to Me), Davonte Burse (Lady T’s Betrayal), Triana Browne (Model House), Timothy Batten (Tulsa King), Leila Annastasia Scott (The Jurassic Games: Extinction), Deena Bacon (Boneyard), and Bryan Whorton (Reagan). I went into Resurrection Road without reading the synopsis or viewing a Trailer so I was honestly just expecting a western with some crazy action in it. It was a real nice surprise that it gets darker once it all settles in. It kinda reminded of 2018’s Overlord on how it changed it up. The horror elements definitely make it stand out a little more. Resurrection Road came out around the same time as the mainstream Sinners so I think lots of people thought it was just trying to capitalize on it’s success but it was developed before that one blew up so it’s not that plus it’s very different than that production. Resurrection Road provides a good amount of action, violence, and gore that any horror fan will appreciate it. They push the limits for this and it’s way more gruesome than expected..I thought it was cool that they actually went with the old school practical fx route lead by the legendary Wayne Beauchamp (Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Fade to Black, Fatal Games, The Strangers: Prey at Night, My Bloody Valentine, Freddy vs. Jason, Phantasm franchise, Bride of Re-Animator, Neon Maniacs, Children of the Corn franchise, and Exorcist II: The Heretic). Resurrection Road is one of the biggest surprises of the year when it comes to the independent scene. This low budget production went way above my expectations. It keeps itself very entertaining and it’s so much fun. Well Go USA has been on fire lately when it comes to the horror genre, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer is great especially for it’s limited budget. The atmosphere is very important to this one. The gritty cinematography, sharp production design, attention grabbing locations, and it’s bloody fx really shines when it comes to the visuals. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the disc. The audio really delivers on it’s action and brutal scenes in this. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the tension is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the “Trailer” for Resurrection Road and various Well Go USA related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
