Repeater Blu Ray Review (Shoreline Entertainment / Saban Films)

Repeater is a 2022 action film co-written, produced, and directed by R. Ellis Frazier (Across the Line: The Exodus of Charlie Wright, Misfire, Hustle Down, As Good as Dead, Legacy, Dead Drop, and Rumble). It was co-written by Benjamin Budd (Larceny, Deep Stage, Myra: Golden, Misfire, and Uppercut). It was produced by Robert Beaumont (Scorned, Ride, 2307: Winter’s Dream, Hustle Down, and Dead Drop). Action stars Dolph Lundgren and Michael Jai White were originally attached to this project. A hitman John Smith’s (played by: Paul Sidhu from 2307: Winter’s Dream, The Black Russian, Escape from Black Water, Aakhari Decision, and Hustle Down) mission from handler Edgar Mann (played by: Corbin Bernsen from The Dentist franchise, Major League franchise, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, L.A. Law, The Punisher, and Tales from the Hood) unravels when a rogue hacker Jean Rousseau (played by: Nick Moran from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Accident Man, Harry Potter franchise, Terminal, and New Blood) drags him into a global conspiracy, forcing him into a deadly game with rival assassins Nadia Sykes (played by: Kristanna Loken from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, BloodRayne, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, Burn Notice, and Girl Meets World) and Henrik Botha (played by: Gary Daniels from The Expendables, Tekken, Bloodfist IV, Hunt to Kill, Cold Harvest, and Bloodmoon)!!!! I love hitman movies and the concept for Repeater sounded pretty good. Unfortunately, it just didn’t live up to any of it. The script was average and a little cliche to be honest. Director R. Ellis Frazier has done plenty of action and crime films at this point so he did a solid job with Repeater with what he had to work with. Lead actor Paul Sidhu is the biggest flaw as John Smith when it comes to this independent production. He sleep walks through everything and he doesn’t have much of a personality. It doesn’t help that he’s surrounded with a skilled supporting cast because he just makes him look even worse as the struggling killer just trying to survive all of this. Repeater would have been so much better with a different actor here. I know they had bigger names lined up for this but it didn’t happen for some reason. Veterans Corbin Bernsen, Nick Moran, Kristanna Loken, and Gary Daniels are all great in this. They all try their best to elevate everything despite a weak counterpart as the main attraction in Repeater. Bernsen is the honest handler that gives out the contracts to his killers. Loken and Daniels are the competition to John Smith. Moran is the poor bastard that causes all of this disaster with these brutal assassins. The rest of the cast includes James Faulkner (Game of Thrones), Cinthya Carmona (The Tax Collector), David Fernandez Jr. (End of Watch), Luis Gatica (Seized), Justin Nesbitt (Monster), and Geoffrey Ross (The Line). Repeater feels like it’s trying to cash in on the success of John Wick and it has some similar vibes to it. It has some funny dark witty lines and potential is always there but it never shows up. It has some decent action, violence, and interaction with all of the killers so it’s not a total waste. Repeater is very inconsistent, it has it’s moments but they are few and far between so it doesn’t have the best pace to it. I’m not saying it’s awful or anything, it’s nothing special and I’ve seen it done better so many other times. It’s currently streaming on Tubi, Pluto TV, and Plex if you are curious. Keep your expectations very low but it’s still worth checking out at least once!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Shoreline Entertainment in association with Saban Films! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks fantastic on Blu Ray. The action scenes and violence pop out the most here for it’s sharp visuals. It has a English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track. It sounds really good with it’s gunplay and chaos for the audio. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the action is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. There’s no extras on this disc. This is a M.O.D (BD-R) home video release. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
