Renegades is a 2022 action film executive produced, produced, and directed by Daniel Zirilli (Acceleration, Hollow Point, The Asian Connection, Locked Down, Crossing Point, Invincible, and Circle of Pain). It was written by Tom Jolliffe (Scarecrow’s Revenge, Toothfairy franchise, The Leprechaun’s Curse, Ouija Host, The Wizard of Oz: The Dead Walk, Cinderella’s Revenge, Sky Monster, Jurassic Island, and Witches of Amityville Academy). It was produced by Jonathan Sothcott (The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan, Fanged Up, Helloween, The Krays: Dead Man Walking, Aura, Return of the Vampyres, Devil’s Playground, Dead Cert, Strippers vs Werewolves, and Rise of the Footsoldier: Part II). It had an estimated budget of £1,500,000. A group of ex-SAS soldiers which includes Burton (played by: Nick Moran from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Harry Potter franchise, Accident Man, Avengement, Terminal, and New Blood), Peck (played by: Ian Ogilvy from Death Becomes Her, Wuthering Heights, She Beast, And Now the Screaming Starts!, Puppet Master 5, and Witchfinder General), Woody (played by: Billy Murray from Up the Junction, Corruption, Essex Boys franchise, Rise of the Footsoldier franchise, and The Bill), and Harris (played by: Paul Barber from The Full Monty, Formula 51, The Long Good Friday, Porridge, and Gangsters) reunite to get vengeance for Carver (played by: Lee Majors from The Six Million Dollar Man, The Fall Guy, Ash vs Evil Dead, The Big Valley, Scrooged, and Killer Fish). They unleash a brutal justice to the notorious drug cartel lead by Goram (played by: Louis Mandylor from Rambo: Last Blood, Affinity, The Quest, Doom: Annihilation, My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise, and Marshall Law) that’s destroying their community. Will they be able to finish their deadly mission and get retribution????
Renegades is a kinda a lower budget version of The Expendables. Action veteran Daniel Zirilli is behind the camera for this one. He’s responsible for all kinds of direct to video material for 20+ years. He’s done movies with Dolph Lundgren, Steven Seagal, Michael Jai White, Sean Patrick Flanery, Tom Sizemore, and Vinnie Jones. The script and concept is very simple and it’s been done before but it works for something like this. Lead actor Nick Moran is good here as the skilled former Green Beret Burton. He’s done with his former life until he comes back to honor his friend. It’s one of his better roles in a long time. He’s done some major projects over the years but unfortunately it’s a few and far between when it comes to that these days. I always thought he was underrated and he deserved better than what he usually gets. His crew includes veteran character actors Billy Murray, Ian Ogilvy, and Paul Barber. They are consistently good and they definitely elevate this material the best that they can. As always, Louis Mandylor is an excellent villain as the ruthless Goram. He’s the best thing about Renegades. He’s plays unlikable with ease, it’s someone that deserves to die and he is the reason why it’s hell on the streets. Just a warning, some of these actors only have really small cameos in this. The impressive supporting cast includes Lee Majors, Danny Trejo (Heat), Patsy Kensit (Lethal Weapon 2), Tommy “Tiny” Lister (Friday), Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), Michael Brandon (Four Flies on Grey Velvet), Stephanie Beacham (Dracula A.D. 1972), Paul Kennedy (House of the Dragon), James Chalke (Gunmen), Jon Xue Zhang (The Gentlemen), and Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Peter Rabid). Renegades delivers plenty of action, crime, suspense, and violence. Renegades is cheaply made and it has some sloppy editing at times but it keeps itself very entertaining and fun for the most part. The screenplay is extremely rough for this but luckily the talented cast makes it a little more acceptable with their presence. This had potential to be better but it’s still worth checking out to see everyone involved in this. It’s currently streaming on Peacock, Tubi, Fawesome, Plex, Pluto TV, Roku, and Prime Video if you are curious about it!!!!
Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Shoreline Entertainment and Saban Films! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks good on home video. The action scenes stand out the most here. It has a English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track. It’s packed with violence, revenge, and crime. All of the dialogue is very clean, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on this disc. This is a M.O.D (BD-R) home video release. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
