Reality Killers Blu Ray Review (Treasured Films)

Reality Killers (aKa Project K) is a 2005 extreme horror anthology film co-written and directed by Alessandro Capone (Witch Story, Detective Extralarge, Recipe for Crime, Police District, and Primetime Murder), Volfango De Biasi (Crazy for Football: The Craziest World Cup, Help! My In-Laws Are Vampires!, The Net, Lightning Strike, and 20 Cigarettes), Ciro D’Ammicco (Rosafuria, The Lark Farm, Wrong Number, and Tunnel), and Francesco Maria Dominedò (Erotic Short Stories, La Banda Dei Tre, 5, and Diabolika). It was co-written by Pablo Dammicco (Silent Cradle and A Deadly Compromise). It was produced by The Dammicco Family (Primetime Murder, The Assault, The Lazarus Child, Doomsdayer, and Billy Frankenstein). It had an estimated budget of €1,885,000. It follows the perverse serial killer known as “The Sculptor” (played by: Valter D’Errico from Gabriel and E Poi…Tutti Giù Per Terra) as he parades the viewer through his extensive collection of gruesome snuff videotapes. A journalist Mary (played by: Cristina Puccinelli from The Mark, Phantasmagoria, The Dinner, Cam Girl, and L’ultimo Weekend) does her own deep investigations into the harsh murder spree. A series of candid graphic vignettes of horrific intensity which will test the nerves of it’s audience as they experience some of the worst acts of violence possible!!!! Reality Killers is a real mystery which probably helps it’s sadistic atmosphere and realistic approach. It almost feels like a legit snuff feature, there’s barely any information about this low budget horror anthology. I love serial killer movies and this one pushes all of the boundaries when it comes to brutality. 8MM a similar subject to the mainstream but Reality Killers shows what it’s really like without being watered down. I guess it’s more comparable to the August Underground franchise but I prefer these over all of those movies. The script is there but it mainly lets the visuals speak for itself rather than telling a complete story. It does have a few twisted surprises in it. Unfortunately, the credits are a little slim so a good amount that worked on this didn’t get listed for this. The cast that I have confirmed includes Valter D’Errico, Cristina Puccinelli, Rick Collins (The Toxic Avenger franchise), Domiziano Cristopharo (4 Halloween), and Jun Ichikawa (Mother of Tears). The excellent special fx are handled by artists Domiziano Cristopharo (A Taste of Phobia, American Guinea Pig: Sacrifice, eROTik, Phantasmagoria, Dark Waves, and Torment) and Federico Carretti (Apocalypto, Avengers: Age of Ultron, House of Flesh Mannequins, The Passion of the Christ, and Gangs of New York). Reality Killers is very violent, hardcore, shocking, and intense. Gore fans will really appreciate this because it’s packed with bloodshed. The torture porn sub-genre was very popular when the Saw and Hostel films first came out, it lasted longer than I thought it would for a more national audience that usually can’t tolerate gruesome moments like they are shown here. Reality Killers takes several crazy scenarios that display various uncomfortable and nasty moments. It got banned in a few different spots for it’s uncensored depravity. Reality Killers flew under the radar, it’s not really brought up at all. It’s better than it’s reputation and it’s close to anything from Unearthed Films. I’m glad it got a home video release, Treasured Films has been giving a spotlight to plenty obscure or rare films lately. If you are squeamish or easily offended, stay away from this because it doesn’t back down. Reality Killers is very entertaining and it embraces it’s terrifying chaos. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Treasured Films! This 1080p (1.33:1) uncut transfer. They made Reality Killers has a more gritty and old school VHS feel to it which makes it feel like it’s actually real. It has English DTS-HD Stereo on the disc. It has some wild and batshit crazy situations that spotlight the audio here. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a big boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the little over 33 minute “From Witch Lore To Snuff Gore”. It’s a brand new interview with director Alessandro Capone. He chats about his love for the horror genre. He mentions collecting Universal Monsters stuff early on. He wrote his first script as a challenge to himself. His original professional gig was writing a musical which he thought he was a joke when offered it. He talks about his career and life experiences. It’s highly detailed look into his history in film. It has the little over 16 minute “Producing A Killing Reality”. It’s a brand new interview with producer Gabriele Pacitto. He chats about his inspirations and his origins. He calls Alessandro Capone the cool uncle. He says that he mainly got involved with Reality Killers because he’s fond of the genre. He’s honest about his thoughts on it. It didn’t get the proper push like promised. He’s extremely informative and he seems to be proud of his work on it. Both of the conversations above are in Italian with English subtitles. It has the little over 11 minute “Cutting Deep: Mapping the Origin of Torture Porn”. It’s a new video essay with Giacomo Calzoni. He goes over the infamous torture porn sub-genre. He mentions earlier efforts that would be considered in this group. He brings up real life tragedies that could have sparked this specific type of film. It’s an interesting theory and opinions related to this select market of extreme horror. It has some awesome references to some obscure stuff which I fully appreciate. It has the amazing almost 132 minutes of “Original Production Scenes”. It’s a series of deleted scenes and alternative approaches illustrating a film that have a very different plot to the final version. This is alternate view of what Reality Killers could have been. This is pretty damn cool to have on here. It has a “Teaser Trailer”. It has a little over 14 minutes of “Storyboards and Image Gallery”. It comes with a high quality slipcover, 2 reversible artworks underneath, and it has a 32 page booklet. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
