Quantum Leap Season Two Blu Ray Review (Universal)

Quantum Leap is a 2022 science fiction television series created by Donald P. Bellisario (NCIS, Magnum P.I., JAG, and Airwolf). It was developed by Steven Lilien (La Brea, God Friended Me, Gotham, Alcatraz, and Hawaii Five-O) and Bryan Wynbrandt (CSI: NY, Kyle XY, La Brea, Gotham, and Hawaii Five-O). It was directed by John Terlesky (The Blacklist and Castle), Kristin Windell (Doom Patrol and Arrow), Chris Grismer (The Vampire Diaries and Freakish), M.J. Bassett (Ash vs. Evil Dead and Silent Hill: Revelation), Tamika Miller (Station 19 and The Equalizer), Pamela Romanowsky (The Institute and The Adderall Diaries), Avi Youabian (The Walking Dead and All American), Joe Menendez (Kung Fu and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Jude Weng (Twisted Metal and Young Sheldon), and Deborah Pratt (Grey’s Anatomy). It’s a sequel to the original 1989 show. It only lasted for two seasons, it aired on NBC. The leap back to the present day didn’t go as planned. For physicist Ben Song (played by: Raymond Lee from Top Gun: Maverick, Driveways, The Lost City, and Kevin Can F**k Himself), only a moment has passed since he was supposed to return home, but he’s been missing for three years. Almost everything about Project Quantum Leap has drastically changed. Now Ben is unfortunately locked into a timeline where his former fiancee Addison Augustine (played by: Caitlin Bassett from Deepest Darkest and V Is for Vodka) has a new love interest in her life and the rest of his disbanded support team is scattered. Ben’s time-traveling adventures face astonishing amount of new challenges while he leaps into lives including a bounty hunter, a treasure seeker, a UFO investigator, a woman accused of witchcraft, and a professor searching for Albert Einstein’s lost formula. During his centuries-spanning journey, Ben picks up a surprising new partner and exposes history-altering secrets as Quantum Leap’s hurtles toward an unexpected conclusion!!!! This newer Quantum Leap was better than expected. The last season ended a little crazy and you kinda wondered if it was going to come back. It’s a follow up to the classic original show, it’s a shame that they didn’t bring back the iconic Sam Beckett character played by Scott Bakula. The scripts have that same formula that you already know from before and it’s still a cool concept. Raymond Lee is kinda average as Ben Song. Don’t get me wrong, he isn’t bad here but he just doesn’t really fit for this. I personally think Quantum Leap would have been so much better with a different lead. Newcomer Caitlin Bassett is great as Addison Augustine, she’s one of bright spots when it comes to this sequel. Veteran actor Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters franchise) as Herbert “Magic” Williams is the best thing about Quantum Leap. It’s a role from the original version but that one was played by someone else back in the day. Magic is a national leader and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to save his team. The rest of the supporting cast includes Mason Alexander Park (The Sandman), Nanrisa Lee (Bosch), Peter Gadiot (Yellowjackets), Louis Herthum (Westworld), Tim Matheson (The West Wing), C.S. Lee (Dexter), Brian Van Holt (Basic), Lou Diamond Phillips (Werewolves), Eliza Taylor (The 100), Alice Kremelberg (The Sinner), and James Frain (True Blood). Quantum Leap is packed with all kinds of action, suspense, mystery, comedy, and drama. Ben experiences so many different people during his time travels and they are all completely unique in their own way. It’s a solid show but after watching this last season, I’m honestly not surprised that it got cancelled. It had it’s moments but it was inconsistent at times. It had so much potential to something better. Regardless, I thought it was pretty fun and it was entertaining for the most part for it’s episodes. It’s definitely worth checking out at least once especially if you appreciate the original!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Universal Pictures! These 1080p (1.78:1) transfers on all 12 episodes look amazing on blu ray. Quantum Leap has always been a visual television show and this newer version is no different. Season Two covers a variety of different times over the years. It has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks for each episode on all three discs. The audio is very impressive for this sci-fi series, there’s a good amount of action here. All of the dialogue is crisp, the time travels are elevated, and music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on this home video release. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
